Have You Seen The Awe-Inspiring Dead Island Trailer Yet?

Have You Seen The Awe-Inspiring Dead Island Trailer Yet?

Dead Island is a "first-person zombie-slasher/action-RPG" – at least that’s what the developers call it, anyway – and it’s got a trailer you quite simply have to see.

It’s a trailer so good, so engaging, so goddamn bloody that half the zombie-loving internet (so, half the internet, then) is talking about it, and as we like to share only the best with you here on Infinite Lives, we thought we should show it to you here too, just in case you’d missed it.

The game itself revolves around a group of survivors who find themselves trapped in The Royal Palms Resort, a luxury hotel complex on the remote island of Banoi, Papua New Guinea. Just being trapped in a hotel resort would be fine and dandy (for a while, at least), but it’s all very different when everyone you’ve been sharing mojitos with suddenly starts trying to eat you.

The guys behind the controversial-yet-brilliant trailer are Polish developers Techland, who most recently brought us Wild West shooter Call Of Juarez, and plan on giving Dead Island to the world later this year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

But unlike other Zombie-killing gaming franchises you’re no doubt already thinking of, there’s none of the giggly schoolboy fun of Dead Rising – this is a serious zombie game. Where you’ve seriously got to kill some zombies. Seriously.

You see, what with this being a nice family-friendly hotel and all, guns aren’t on racks here and there in and grenades aren’t handily left in buckets outside your door – if you want to survive, you’re going to have to improvise.

Sure, you might immediately reach for the fire axe, but after hacking chunks of bloody bone out of all these zombie-ma-things, the sharpness in the edge will go, and soon you’ll be reaching for knives, brooms, mops, chairs, anything to get the bloodthirsty bastards at bay.

But try as we might to explain it, Dead Island’s tone is best set by the trailer. If you wanted to, you could call it the Zombie-survival-game-trailer equivalent of Coldplay’s music video for ‘The Scientist’ (And/or the ‘Backwards’ episode from Red Dwarf). You know, if you’re a nerd.

Confused? We’re not surprised. Which is why we’ve included the “forward” version, edited by one of Dead Island’s new found fans, after the amazing original trailer below. And just as a warning: it’s not for the faint of heart. At all. Gulp…

Such a good trailer. Can't stop watching it. I like the idea of barely any guns and just having to scrounge for bits of pipe etc to use as weapon, it'll make it far more realistic than previous zombie games, but I just hope it doesn't become boring not being able to use any other kind of weapon.

Anyway, if this trailer is anything to go by, the game is going to be amazing.

Saw this trailer yesterday and it is breathtaking.

With regard to the game and the idea of having to improvise by picking up anything that's around was used in Dead Rising 2 which was cool except that everything you picked up killed about 5 zombies before it broke and you had to find something else which was just really annoying. I should have been having fun caving zombie heads in I was thinking 'shit where am I going to find something better than this shit umbrella to hit them with'. So I'm not excited for the game but this trailer is stunning.

The trailers fantastic, hopefully the game will follow suit. Also, the music was very 'Lost'.

I have got something fresh Wait for it .
Marvel at the unique concept of Zombies which eat Vampires .
Some body give this guy a promotion. P.s am I allowed use the word Marvel in that context? Game looks good but as the title suggests what better way to Isolate Zombies than on an Island of the Dead .Can I use a Palm tree as a Weapon or will I just do my nut in throwing Coca at the Really well animated Dead (reanimated).
Score was chilling or should I say piano and vocals which distract you from the seer horror of the turning of the Young Ling .
P.p.s I realize she does not come from a Chinese Background but Ling is a Common Surname for the Average White Suburbanite Family Nowadays or so I have been Told .I should really stop listening to people.Think I am going to watch it in slow Emotion and count the shards of Glass , The Pain the pane.

What an awe inspiring piece of promotion. This is possibly the greatest gaming trailer I have ever seen and it really wets the appetite, a la zombie-esque! Saw this two days ago and its thaken the world by storm since. So powerful when played in reverse. I for one can not wait for the game. Roll on Dead Nation!!!!

And this is why it annoys me when people like Roger Ebert say "videogames cannot be art"

That trailer achieves, in just a few short minutes, what some films/TV shows fail to do after a few hours.

That's a mini masterpiece, right there.

Saw it yesterday and actually felt myself welling up. I havent felt such a way due to a form of entertainment in a very long time and it was refreshing to see a new take on the zombie survival game but also the deep emotions involved in it.

Of course it may be off putting for some people, realism is great, but having to kill your own daughter who you just saved but who bit you anyways is a very cruel and hard thing to deal with, even in when it's not real... then again... maybe we need more games like this, achieving greatness through real stories? So long as no games out there try to be Nil By Mouth or Irreversible I think we'll be ok.

It's a fantastic trailer - I've watched it a dozen times already, and it's certainly doing it's job in making everyone talk about the game. I'm just not sure if the game itself will be connected to it in any way, apart from the 'survival with everyday objects as weapons' element. I'd quite like to play a video game where I get to tearfully hack zombie to pieces whilst reflecting on the beauty and fragility of life. By the reaction to the trailer, so would a lot of people. I'm not sure that's the game that 'Dead Isand' is going to be.

this 3 min trailer is creepier and more 'affecting' than Romero`s last 3 movies put together.Sorry George!

Wow, this is as good as a well cut film trailer. If I wasn't such a scardey cat, i would buy the game.

Erm...
Wow!
That was quite simply harrowing. Beautiful trailer, the artistry that goes into these nowadays is simply phenomenal. It's just a shame there's no way a game can possibly live up to that.
It's like the DC Universe one, awesome trailer, and what you get afterwards is basically WoW with superheroes.

A fantastic trailer. I agree with moviemogul, it does feel like something from "Lost" (but with zombies). maybe there will be a cameo?

One of the best game trailers ever, but it is only the trailer, hopefully the game can can be just as good as the trailer ...AMAZING!

Watched these trailers so may times, simply amazing. I like the idea that it'll take away the gamer's dependance on guns and ammo and just improvise.

To be honest, I really don't find trailers (for games) interesting, if there is no game play footage, so yeah I didn't really watch the whole of this! But, this does look amazing, but I do worry a little bit about the game itself being banned (going off this trailer), it seems there is a chance! Such as the child being killed for example.

Not usually into the whole Zombie genre as they are a dime a dozen but this does look more realistic and could be much more fun than just shooting your way round a darkened city. Awsome trailer bty.

For people crying out for something completely fresh, look no further than Marvel Zombies.
