The Best Movie Swearing

Posted on Thursday January 8, 2009, 10:10 by Ian Freer in Empire States
The Best Movie Swearing

Swearing. From as soon as you can say the word “bum”, you hear these immortal seven words: It’s not big and it’s not clever. Maybe not, but movie swearing is undeniably entertaining and in the hands of a Mamet/Tarantino/Lee can be both big and clever. There is little to beat a well-chosen expletive to make a dramatic point or underline a character’s emotion or - if it is children, old ladies or Hugh Grant doing the swearing - get a laugh. If you want proof check out these watered down versions of classic curse-filled lines and just feel the difference.

The opening narration of Apocalypse Now as Captain Willard considers his fate: “Saigon….blast….I’m still only in Saigon.”

The beginning of Four Weddings And A Funeral when a frantic Charles realises he’s over slept before wedding no. 1: “Flip… Flip …. Flip …I’m late… Flip … Flip….Flip … Flip”

Or what about the famous motivational speech by Blake to the beleagured real estate salesman of Glengarry Glen Ross:
Davc Moss: What’s your name?
Blake: Darn you, that’s my name!

Doesn’t quite work, does it? And, conversely, wouldn’t Gone With The Wind been soooooo much better if, stepping outside that door, Rhett Butler turned to Scarlett O’Hara and said, “Frankly my dear, you’re a caaaant!” Clark Gable channelling Ray Winstone. Now that’s cinema.

According to unofficial sources, the top 3 films with the highest f-word count are 3) Casino (398), 2) Nil By Mouth (428) and 1) US documentary Fuck (824 in 93 minutes). But forget quantity: for my money, the best example, the blue ribbon, the Going For Gold Gold Run of movie swearing belongs to Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull. Late on in the film, after the La Motta brothers have long been estranged, Jake (De Niro) phones his brother Joey (Pesci), now visibly older than when we last saw him. La Motta is too emotionally crippled to talk so Joey launches into a non-stop tirade of abuse that includes the following pearl of wisdom…

“I can hear you breathing you fuck. You listening, your mother sucks fucking big fucking elephant dicks, you got that?”

Let’s just hear that one more time….
“Your mother sucks fucking big fucking elephant dicks, you got that?”

The genius of this line is manifold: the repetition of the second “fucking” so quickly after the first gives the dialogue the feel of freeform poetry, especially given Pesci’s rat-a-tat delivery, the inclusion of the word “elephant” spins the statement into a whole new level of disgusting surrealism. And, of course, that Joey is oblivious to the fact that the mother he is trashing is his own mother adds a delicious level of irony to the insult.

So that’s my favorite moment of movie swearing; creative, completely over the top, totally defining character, grimly humorous.

What the fuck is your favourite, you fucks?

Clerks, simply for "This job would be great if it wasn't for the fucking customers". Anyone Who has worked in a shop, hell, anyone who has spent longer than 5 minutes in a shop knows the whole experience would be massively improved by the removal of the fucking customers.

"Fuck fucking off" is a favourite of mine from Shaun of the Dead.

Or McClane's "buttfuck" line.

not a movie but tv...The Thick of It has the best swearing by miles.
"okay, you won't hear any more swearing from us you MASSIVE GAY SHITE! FUCK OFF!"

"He's a big fat guy with a dick the size of a bookie's biro"

"How much shit is on the menu and WHAT FUCKING FLAVOUR IS IT?!" is also good

Steve Martin's tirade on the appalling car-hire woman in Planes Trains and Automobiles is surely one of the most satisfying answers to the question "May I help you sir?"

"You can start by wiping that fucking dumb-ass smile off your rosy, fucking cheeks..."

Who hasn't wanted to say that in Argos?

I actually think that the life of brian is great for the swearing, this is because there isn't actually that much in it but when they do the comic timing of it makes it funny a fuck!

A classic example of this is at the beginning when they are trying to listen to the sermon and Palin is getting called big nose constantly to which he responds

"one more time mate and i'll take you to the fackin cleaners!!"

and then there is the simplicity and genius of Cleese:

Centurion: You are fucking nicked, me old beauty!

Classic!

My personal favourite is Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: -

You look up the definition of idiot in the dictionary, you know what you'll find?
Err a picture of me?
No. The definition of idiot which you FUCKING are.

Aliens is start to finish great cursing!

Also and not technically being used as a curse in Atonement: -

I dream of kissing you cunt...You're hot wet cunt...

Fucking beautiful...

For me, it has to be the classic John McClane "Yippee Ki Yay Muthafucker!"

Or Ben Kingsleys first line in Sexy Beast "Gotta change my shirt, its sticking to me, im sweating like a cunt"

what an introduction

Another variation of swearing humour is to translate it into a mundane word for a bigger laugh. Best example is the moment from Speed when Keanu Reeves spots something on the bomb which will make it difficult to defuse. His response is a typical "F**k!", but Annoying Tourist Guy relaying the conversation over the phone to Jeff Daniels changes it to "Oh Darn".

Paddy in Hot Fuzz, sublime.

"What about him?" Withnail
"Can he help us?" Marwood
"Can who? Who the fuck are you talking about?" Withnail, muttered quickly through fag clenched teeth.

"Shut up and sit down you big bald fuck." Its the plosives on the final one-two of b's that make it so very special. Dennis to Mike, Snatch.

It has to be Ken and Harry's conversation in In Bruges. I've never seen the 'C' word used so frequently and nonchalantly as it is by Ken here:

Ken: Harry, let's face it. And I'm not being funny. I mean no disrespect, but you're a cunt. You're a cunt now, and you've always been a cunt. And the only thing that's going to change is that you're going to be an even bigger cunt. Maybe have some more cunt kids.

Harry: [furious] Leave my kids fucking out of it! What have they done? You fucking retract that bit about my cunt fucking kids!

Ken: I retract that bit about your cunt fucking kids.

Harry: Insult my fucking kids? That's going overboard, mate!

Ken: I retracted it, didn't I?

Sexy Beast - Ben Kingsley to Ray Winstone
-"You louse. You got some fuckin' neck. Retired? Fuck off, you're revolting. Your fuckin' suntan, you're like leather. Like a leather man. You could make a fuckin' suitcase. You look like a fat crocodile, fat bastard. You look like fuckin' Idi Amin. State of you. You should be ashamed of yourself. Who d'you think you are? King of the castle? Cock of the walk? Don: Fat cunt!
Gal: No, No, No!

Although, my very favorite swear in the whole film comes from Ray, not Ben...

Gal: I'd be useless.

Once again, I offer an example from In Bruges:

Ken: "We shall strike a balance between culture and fun."
Ray: "Somehow I believe, Ken, that the balance shall tip in the favor of culture, like a big fat fucking retarded fucking black girl on a see-saw opposite a dwarf."

Although, in a film that does swearing so well, it's odd that one of my favourite lines is when Harry creepily talks like a kid about Ray's toilet-time:

"Is he doing a wee or a poo?"

Also, Whistler in Blade 2: "Yeah well some of us can't see in the dark ya fuckin' nipplehead...."

"Fuck, you've gone completely sideways, man."

"Pig fucker, pig fucker, pig fucker, pig fucker, pig fucker, pig fucker, pig fucker!"

"Dogs fucked the Pope... no fault of mine."

I agree whole-heartedly with In Bruges, Withnail, Monty Python for their fine fucks... oh, and whoever pointed out Trading Places deserves a doth of the cap.

There's one brilliant 'fuck' in the so-so film 'The Actors' starring Dylan Moran and Michael Caine. As their situation gets worse Dylan's neice, a cute little eight year old girl is trying to explain a solution to Dylan and Caine's predicament, and at one point Caine just turns to her and exasperatedly spits;

This is a great quote from My Cousin Vinny.

Vinny is after an opinion on what he's going to wear to deer hunting.

Mona Lisa Vito responds...

"Imagine you're a deer. You're prancing along. You get thirsty. You spot a little brook. You put your little deer lips down to the cool, clear water - BAM. A fuckin' bullet rips off part of your head. Your brains are lying on the ground in little bloody pieces. Now I ask ya, would you give a fuck what kind of pants the son-of-a-bitch who shot you was wearing?"

1) Jay: "Yo, some pickle fucker gave us free eats! "
The fact that Jay doesn't know about Lance Dowds high school trauma makes it all the better.

2) Randall: "Well, I don't wanna jerk off in the Mooby's bathroom! What if a customer comes in and my jerking off gets him all sex nuts and retard strong, and suddenly I'm fighting him off as he tries to jam my dick in his mouth!"

And the mother of all:
Randal: "What's the big deal? Since when is it a crime to say porch monkey?"
Becky: "Oh, I don't know, since forever?"
Randal: "Why?"
Dante: "Because porch monkey's a racial slur against black people!"
Randal: "No it's not! Nigger is."
Dante: "Randal!"
Elias: "Did Randal just call Mr. Dante a nigger?"
Becky: "Shut up, Elias!"
Randal: "I didn't just call Dante a nigger, I just said that nigger is a racial slur."
Dante: "So is porch monkey!"
Randal: "Oh, it is not! Coon, spook, spade, moolie, jigaboo, nig-nog, *those* are racial slurs!"

Mr. Pink to Mr. White

Mr Orange's angry cry

Nice Guy Eddie

Mr. White
- "Toby? Toby Wong. Toby Wong? Toby Wong. Toby Chung? Fucking Charlie Chan."

Also, more from The Big Lebowski, pretty much anything that came out of Walter's mouth...

"Larry, this is what happens when you FUCK A STRANGER IN THE ASS!"

"Saturday, Donny, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't get in a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't pick up the phone, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shit DON'T FUCKING ROLL! Shomer Shabbos!"

Some of my favourites (don't think they've been mentioned so far):

“My name is Zeus. You know, king of the gods, Mount Olympus, don’t fuck with me or I’ll shove a lightning bolt up your ass, ZEUS! You got a problem with that?” - Die Hard with a Vengeance.

“Who the fuck is this asshole?” - Coming to America.

“You’re a great person. You’re the best person. It’s just that sometimes, you can be a real cunt.” - Kill Bill 2.

“AK-47, the very best there is. When you absolutely positively gotta kill every motherfucker in the room? Accept no substitute.” - Jackie Brown.

“Tyrone. You silly fat bastard.” - Snatch.

“Suprise, cockbags!” - TeamAmerica.

“We’ve all gotta die. The only question is how you check out. Do you want it on your feet? On on your fucking knees, begging. I ain’t much for begging. No-one ever gave me nothing. So I say fuck that thing, let’s fight it!” - Alien 3.

I don't know about actual dialogue quotes but a mention must go to Sir Ben Kingsley as Don Logan in Sexy Beast. Every second or third word is either 'fucking', 'fuck', or 'cunt', and he uses it with absolute effect. As Sir Ben says on the DVD making of interviews He's like a scud missile who won't stop till it hits it's target, he's unpleasant, fearsome, and totally unforgetable.
Another mention must go to Denis Leary, his irish catholic roots makes every raging swearword sounds cool.

I've got nothing against swearing, but i always think that beeping it out is somehow funnier, especially on sitcoms like arrested development and the IT crowd:

'It would have been even worse if Paul hadn't been so quick on the profanity buzzer.'

I've really never got why "yippee-kay-ay motherfucker" is considered such a great line.

Anyway, while Withnail & I has the best movie swearing, some of the best sweary lines ever are in Deadwood.

There's an episode where Al Swearengen (which is a great name) and Mr Wu have a whole conversation using the word cocksucker.

'Shit faced cock master'

I barely even notice the expletives anymore, so desensitised has by addled brain become after years of Tarantino and many seasons of Deadwood. I'd probably invite Al 'swear-engine' Swearengen to my nieces birthday for a bit of a laugh.

Then again the modern anti-expletives probably make more of an impact: if it were 'yippee-ki-yay-mother-fracker' I might even notice he wasn't using real words. Probably not though.

In case you hadn't guessed, my favourite is Die Hard, short but ever so sweet.

If you're counting TV then one of the best is from the Irish candid camera style show that Mike Murphy did in the 1970s, the set up was to pretend to be a foreign tourist in Dublin while twee, now legendary interviewer and presenter, Gay Byrne was trying to do a news report. Gay Byrne (who is most famous for presenting The Late Late Show on RTE, google it) wouldn't normally say bum to the Devil, but gets so annoyed at Mike Murphy's Manuelesque tourist, he eventually turns to him and says in the perfect pronounciation of a trained BBC and RTE presenter; "Do you know the meaning of the term fuck off?" A true classic

I like it when swearing sneakily creeps it's way into (ostensibly) kid's films (Or films that usually cater to the young) prime examples being:

"Hold still ya little prick!" - Jeff Bridges in Iron Man. Aunt May would blush.

"I don't give a shit about the C.I.A!" - Judi Dench in Quantum of Solace. M for Mutha!

Overall, though, there are too many to mention, so I'll just throw in a few from the funniest film of all time, Blazing Saddles, which uses that sticky issue of racial slurs and swearing and somehow makes it the greatest moron-lampooner (Sorry, the common clay of the world west-lampooner). From the infamous "Up your's, Nigger!" as spoken by a kindly old woman, to "The SHERIFF IS A NII- BONG!!" This is a film in which swearing (Centuries old racist swearing, no less) is not only funny, but wholly necessary! My personal favourite for comic dexterity:

"Have you gone beserk??? Can't you see that THAT man is a ni..." (Notices he's talking to a black man, and not his colleague)

The beautiful thing being, that when he realises his mistake and grabs the right person he still says:

"HAVE YOU GONE BESERK??? Can't you see that THAT man is ni?"

What's a ni? The Mayor's an idiot.
Classic.

How has no one mentioned Todd Hockney in The Usual Suspects? My personal favourite is his reaction to being asked why he's so angry at only McManus and Fenster going to meet Redfoot in California:

"My fucking problem man is that you and Fenster are off honeymooning in California whilst the rest of us are sittin' here holdin' our dicks!"

Other faves include:

"Respect the cock! And TAME the cunt!" - Magnolia
"He said, "No, you're gonna tell me something today, tough guy." I said, "All right, I'll tell you something: go fuck your mother." - Goodfellas
"Oh my fuck... I just killed a fucking spook!" Burn After Reading

Pacino's Richie Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross spits out the most amazing tirade of profanity to Spacey's dumbstruck Williamson after the latter blows a potential sale out of the water giving away a little too much info:

"You stupid fucking cunt. Williamson! I'm talking to you shithead! You just cost me $6,000. $6,000, and one Cadillac. That's right. What are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about it...asshole? You're fucking shit! Where did you learn your trade, you stupid fucking cunt?! You idiot! Whoever told you that you could work with men?! Oh, I'm gonna have your job, shithead. I'm going to Mitch and Murray! And I'm going to Lemkin! I don't care whose nephew you are...who you know...whose dick your sucking on, you're going out! I'll tell you something else, I hope it was you who ripped off the joint, maybe I can tell our friends something that will help them to catch you. Any man who works here lives by his wits. I'm going to be with you in a second. What you are hired to do, is to help us. Does that seem clear to you? To HELP us. Not to FUCK US UP! To help men who are going out there to earn a living, you fairy. You company man. You want to know the first rule you'd learn if you'd ever spent a day in your life? Team America:

We're dicks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid dicks. And the Film Actors Guild are pussies. And Kim Jong Il is an asshole. Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves... because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don't let us fuck this asshole, we're going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

When I think of Cinematic swearing nothing sticks out to me like Beverly Hills Cop I & II! That's probably the fondest and funniest moments in swearing from my youth that I can remember, some of Axel's rants in the cigarette truck were just brilliant, and that voice he uses while expressing "Get the fuck out of here?" to Serge in the Art Gallery. But it's his scene-stealing boss that cracked me up the most. "Is that Fucking Foley in here?" Or from the second one: "Don't think Axel, it makes my dick itch!" Excellent examples of random, uneccessary swearing.

Just to mention a few:

"I have a drinking problem?...Fuck you Jeff, you're a mormon! Next to you, we ALL have drinking problems!"

"Sorry, I don't happen to know my account number because unfortunately I don't sit around all day trying to memorize the fucking numbers! Moron! "

"If you ever carried out your proposed threat you would experience such a shitstorm of consequences my friend your empty little head would be spinning faster than the wheels of your Schwinn bicycle. "

for my money, it doesn't get any better than lebowski.

however, let us not forget the opening to an otherwise pretty mediocre film, 'the way of the gun'

"somebody shut that cunt's mouth before i come over there and fuck-start her head."

and then benicio del toro proceeds to punch sarah silverman in the nose. awesome.

well Dodgeball is worthy of mention... Patches mostly with lines like "It's like watching a bunch of retards try to fuck a doorknob" and "You're about as useful as a cock flavoured lollypop" and of course "My sweet dick it's magic" but most of all for the oh so simple, yet oh so brilliant "fucking chuck norris"

but better still is Demolition man. When Sly makes the machine blow up just by swearing at it so much. genius.

or anchorman's "Ron Burgundy: You are a smelly pirate hooker.
Veronica Corningstone: You look like a blueberry.
Ron Burgundy: Why don't you go back to your home on Whore Island? "

and the simple "Don't you know I'd never say fuck. Fuck. "

but I agree that "Can I get any of you cunts a drink?" is possibly the best use of swearing in cinema ever.

Although this is comment 157 I bet it will never be read. Here goes.

I have to say Kevin Smith is the KING of all swears.
He somehow makes the perfect mixture between art and comedy...Although somtimes without the art.
And may I present you with the fuck quote of the century:

All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little bitches. Once we get to Hollywood and find those Miramax fucks who are making that movie, we're gonna make 'em eat our shit, then shit out our shit, then eat their shit which is made up of our shit that we made 'em eat. Then you're all you motherfucks are next. Love, Jay and Silent Bob.

The films of Tarantino, Apatow, Scorsese, the Coens and Kevin (and "Scarface") are the grandmasters of strong profanity. I could write a book on favorite movie and TV profanity. But I'd like to give props to Python because of their great delivery and timing, as well as the fact that they rarely say the "F" word, which makes it even sweeter when they do.

Favorite Python swearing moments:

Followers: He is! He is the Messiah!
Brian: Now, fuck off!
[silence]
Arthur: How shall we fuck off, O Lord?

Centurion: You are fucking nicked, me old beauty!

Brian: Excuse me. Are you the Judean People's Front?
Reg: Fuck off! We're the People's Front of Judea

Big Nose: One more time, mate, and I'll take you to the facking cleaners!

Maître-D: Would monsieur care for a wafer thin mint?
Mr Creosote: Nah, fuck off, I’m full.

Soldier: Now, at home they'd hang me, here they'll give me a fucking medal, sir.

And, finally, here are some completely gratuitous pictures of penises to annoy the censors and to hopefully spark some sort of controversy, which, it seems, the only way, these days, to get the jaded, video-sated public off their fucking arses and back in the sodding cinema.

Gaston: Well, it’s… it’s not much of a philosophy, I know. But, well… fuck you! I can live my own life in my own way if I want to. Fuck off! Don’t come following me!

On TV, The Sopranos is obviously great ("I'm the motherfuckin' fuckin' one that calls the shots" being a highlight) but it was "Deadwood" that turned it into musical poetry, including one of my favourite monologues ever:
Ellsworth: I may have fucked up my life flatter'n hammered shit, but I stand here before you today beholden to no human cocksucker, and holdin' a workin' fuckin' gold claim, and not the U.S. government tellin' me I'm trespassin', or the savage fuckin' red man or any of these other limber-dick cocksuckers passin' themselves off as prospectors had better try and stop me.

P.S. "San Francisco cucksucka!"

Jules: Ain't no fucking ballpark neither. Now look, maybe your method of massage differs from mine, but you know touching his wife's feet and sticking your tongue in the holiest of holies ain't the same fucking ball park. It ain't the same league. It ain't even the same fucking sport. Look, foot massages don't mean shit.
Vincent: Have you ever given a foot massage?
Jules: Don't be telling me about foot massages, I'm the foot fuckin' master.
Vincent: Given a lot of them?
Jules: Shit, yeah! I got my technique down and everything, I don't be tickling or nothing.
Vincent: Would you give a guy a foot massage?

Some great ones here, here are my personal Faves:

In Bruges (again, but it's a class movie): "That's for John Lennon, you Yankee fucking cunt" - Colin Farrell after knocking out the male Canadian and just before he lays the smack down on his wife.

"BIG-ASS TITTIES!" - Danny R. McBride as the special effects wiz in Tropic Thunder, just before he sets off off a massive explosion.

"Suck my spinning steel - shithead!" - from the absolute genius that is Bad Taste, spoken by the master himself, Peter Jackson.....

"Smoke a fucking peace pipe!!!" - Steve Buscemi as he gets his ass handed to him by Shep Proudfoot in Fargo.

Sooooo many good quotes :)

Oh, and I just remembered: the inimitable Dennis Farina, as Jimmy Serrano, in Midnight Run (why is this film not regarded as a classic?).

"You and that other dummy better start getting more personally involved in your work, or I'm gonna stab you through the heart with a fuckin' pencil. Do you understand me?"

Also from that film, Charles Grodin, as "The Duke", performing a monologue where he and De Niro's Jack Walsh exchange pleasantries:

"Jack?"
"What?"
"When do you think you we're gonna get to L.A.?"
"None of your fucking business!""
Well, I have to go to the bathroom."
"Shut the fuck up!"

Then there's Kevin Costner's Crash Davis in Bull Durham: "Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

Not exactly swearing, but then there's also: "From what I hear, you couldn't hit water if you fell out of a fucking boat." - Also courtesy of Crash.

Ray: Somehow I believe, Ken, that the balance shall TIP in the favor of culture, like a big fat, fucking retarded, fucking black girl on a see-saw... opposite...a dwarf.

So many amazing quotes. Had to put another Pulp Fiction one in here. Theres so many to chose from.

Jimmie: I don't need you to tell me how fucking good my coffee is, okay? I'm the one who buys it, I know how good it is. When Bonnie goes shopping, she buys shit. Me, I buy the gourmet expensive stuff because when I drink it, I want to taste it. But you know what's on my mind right now? It ain't the coffee in my kitchen, it's the dead nigger in my garage.
Jules: Oh, Jimmie, don't even worry about that--
Jimmie: No, I wanna ask you a question. When you came pulling him here, did you notice a sign out in front of my house that said Dead Nigger Storage?
Jules: Jimmie, you know I ain't seen no--
Jimmie: Did you notice a sign out in front of my house that said "Dead Nigger Storage"?!
Jules: No, I didn't.
Jimmie: You know why you didn't see that sign?
Jules: Why?
Jimmie: 'Cause it ain't there, 'cause storing dead niggers ain't my fucking business, that's why!

The Wolf: So pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the fucking car.

Please help me out with this one! I can't remember from which movie is this quote, but it goes something like this (and remember, I'm improvising!):

A police car pulls over in front of a disco or something, white cop drives and black cop sits next to him. The black cop talks to a black gangster (this is obvious, since he is huge, wears big furry jacket, 20 pounds heavy golden chain, big sunglasses although it is night) who is standing in front of the disco.

The cop says: "You're coming with us downtown."
Gangsta: "Where's your warrant at?"
Cop: "You can't put 'AT' at the end of a sentence."
Gangsta: "OK, where's your warrant at, motherfucker?"

The best ever! PLEASE tell me which movie this is, I totally forgot!

I love 'GoodFellas' to bits, so any opportunity to plug it.

Quotes are after after Tommy [Joe Pesci] shoots Spider, inc. Jimmy [Robert De Niro)...

Jimmy Conway: What's the fuckin' matter with you? What - what is the fuckin' matter with you? What are you, stupid or what? Tommy, Tommy, I'm kidding with you. What the fuck are you doin'? What are you, a fuckin' sick maniac?

Tommy DeVito: How am I meant to know you're kidding? What you mean, you're kidding? You breaking my fuckin' balls?

Jimmy Conway: I'm fuckin' kidding with you! You fuckin' shoot the guy?

Henry Hill: He's dead.

Tommy DeVito: Good shot. What do you want from me? Good shot. Fuckin' rat anyway. His family's all rats. He'll grow up to be a rat.

Jimmy Conway: You stupid bastard, I can't fuckin' believe you. Now, you're gonna dig the fuckin' thing now. You're gonna dig the hole. You're gonna do it. I got no fuckin' lime. You're gonna do it.

Tommy DeVito: Who the fuck cares? I'll dig the fuckin' hole. I don't give a fuck. What is it, the first hole I dug? Not the first time I dug a hole. I'll fuckin' dig a hole. Where are the shovels?

For me it's another Scorsese movie. Bill The Butcher from Gangs of New York. Not one of Marty's greatest films, but this is one of my favorite lines ever spoken in a movie. It's my goal to someday work it seamlessly into a conversation.

"I don't give a tupenny fuck about your moral conundrum you meat-headed shit sack."

I'm gonna have to go with the opening scene of Way of the Gun.

After Ryan Phillipe tells Sarah Silverman's boyfriend to "Shut that cunt's mouth, or I'll come over and fuck-start her head." Silverman's tirade is genius:

"You're gonna wish you never got up this morning, cos my boyfriend's gonna fuck you up. And after that, while he's fucking up your fuckin' gay uncle, I'm gonna fucking cut off your cock and mail it to your mother, you faggot. Gaylord fuckin' bitch. How do you like that? You like that a lot? You fucking faggot. You like to ass-fuck? Fontanella fuckin' baby head fuck? Go ahead. You like to fuck baby heads? You like to fuck boys? He's gonna fuck you in the ass! He's not even gay but he'll do it..."

No effing, but for sheer vehemence of delivery you can't beat Eli Wallach in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly".

As the Man With No Name leads him into town to the sheriff's office, trussed to the saddle: "I hope you end up in the graveyard with the cholera and the rabies and the plague ... You filthy bastard, I hope your mother ends up in a two-dollar whorehouse."

As No Name enters the sheriff's office and said lawman emerges: "One bastard go in and another bastard come out."

"Boondock Saints", it should need no introduction for a place such as this, especially for the wonders of swearing.
First, the scene of Papa joe when he's on the phone.

Papa Joe - You insignificant cunt, little fuck!
I always get my money, you cock suckin' bastardo!

-

Then Agent Paul Smecker in all his gay glory talking down to the dumb detective:

Paul Smecker: Why don't you get me a cup of coffee?
Detective Greenly: Who the hell is this...?
Paul Smecker: Cafe latte.
Detective Greenly: What the fuck...?
Paul Smecker: Twist of lemon.
Detective Greenly: Chief, what the fuck is this?
Paul Smecker: Sweet'N Low.

-

And that little cherry on top where Rocco sees enough blood and bodies to make his eyes pop:

Rocco: Fuckin'- What the fuckin'. Fuck. Who the fuck fucked this fucking... How did you two fucking fucks...
[shouts]
Rocco: Fuck!
Connor: Well, that certainly illustrates the diversity of the word.

Larry: Not quite my cup of tea, but... y'know, uh, it's nice.
Susie Greene: All right, you know what? Fuck you... and fuck your tea"

Also other lines in Curb:

"Larry David, this is Ervin Schwimmer. You scumsuckng, motherfucking asshole! Just who the fuck do you think you are, you bald-headed son of a bitch?"

"Krazee-Eyez Killa: You ain't got no etiquette, muthafucka!"

There's a line by Riddick (Vin Diesel) from Pitch Black I enjoy

"Think someone could spend half their life in a slam with a horse bit in their mouth and not believe? Think he could start out in some liquor store trash bin with an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and not believe? Got it all wrong, holy man. I absolutely do believe in God......and I truly hate the fucker."

There's also that line from In Bruges (yet again) when Ray (Farrell) confronts the canadian in the restaurant

- "Are you talking to me?"
- "He pauses, even though he should just hit the cunt, and he repeats: Yes, I am talking to you! What's fucking unbelievable?"

As stated in the blog, swearing isn't big, nor is it clever. But it don't half make for fucking brilliant film dialogue!

haven't seen the Like a Virgin speech from Resevoir Dogs:

Mr. Brown: Lemme tell you what 'Like a Virgin' is about. It's all about this cooze who's a regular fuck machine, I'm talking morning, day, night, afternoon, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick.
Mr. Blue: How many dicks is that?
Mr. White: A lot.
Mr. Brown: Then one day she meets this John Holmes motherfucker and it's like, whoa baby, I mean this cat is like Charles Bronson in the 'Great Escape', he's digging tunnels. Now, she's gettin' the serious dick action and she's feeling something she ain't felt since forever. Pain. Pain.
Joe: Chew? Toby Chew?
Mr. Brown: It hurts her. It shouldn't hurt her, you know, her pussy should be Bubble Yum by now, but when this cat fucks her it hurts. It hurts just like it did the first time. You see the pain is reminding a fuck machine what it once was like to be a virgin. Hence, 'Like a Virgin'.

Shawshank redemption, when Andy's telling Hadley about how the IRS can get their hands on his money...
"Bunch of ball-washing bastards!"

Actually all of Hadley's lines are classic, especially when the inmates are 'fishing' for the new inmates and they make the fat guy cry, and Hadley comes to investigate:

HADLEY What the Christ is this happy shit?

VOICE (O.S.) He took the Lord's name in vain! I'm tellin' the warden!

HADLEY You'll be tellin' him with my baton up your ass!

(Hadley arrives at Fat-Ass' cell, bellowing through the bars:)

HADLEY What's your malfunction you fat fuckin' barrel of monkey-spunk?

FAT-ASS Please! This ain't right! I ain't supposed to be here! Not me!

HADLEY I ain't gonna count to three! Not even to one! Now shut the fuck up 'fore I sing you a lullabye!

...Genius!! And pretty much the whole conversation about the IRS on the rooftop:

HADLEY ...so this shithead lawyer calls long distance from Texas, and he says, Byron Hadley? I say, yeah. He says, sorry to inform you, but your brother just died.

YOUNGBLOOD Damn, Byron. Sorry to hear that.

HADLEY I ain't. He was an asshole.

And it carries on...

TROUT ...A million bucks? Jeez-Louise! You get any of that?

HADLEY Thirty five thousand. That's what he left me.

TROUT Dollars? Holy shit, that's great! Like winnin' a lottery... (off Hadley's shitty look) ...ain't it?

HADLEY Dumbshit. What do you figger the government's gonna do to me? Take a big wet bite out of my ass, is what.

Ah man so many great ones come to mind

In lock stock when there playing poker, one of the guys goes" fold, is that the only word they taught you in school" and the other guy replies "no they also taught me the word cunt" great delivery.
Any of Pacinos in Scarface, the resturant scene is the first to spring to mind.
I also love in Hard Candy when Hailey's true motives come out and she has Patrick Stewarts character tied to a chair ,they had a scene previous where she pretended to like Goldfrapp but once she's drugged him and he relises shes not who she says she goes right up to him and says "I fucking hate Goldfrapp" Its well deliverd and very funny.
Another great delivery in The Faculty when clea duvalls character relises who the main alian is "NO FUCKIN' WAY" Another great delivery.
Pretty much any F- bomb or profanity in Tarrintino movies are deliverd brilliantly.
Girl interupted has lots of great lines, "A word of advice lady, dont point your fucking finger at crazy people"
Begby in Trainspotting " Right some cunt glassed this guy and no cunt leaves here till we find out what cunt did it" deliverd in a perfect scottish accent.

One of my fave lines is in Monster, Charlize Therons character is with a punter (Lee's a hooker) and the guy goes "so you gonna call me daddy while I fuck you" and she replies "why man you ike to fuck your kids" fucking hilerious.
Theres way more but I'll leave it there for now

Sorry - another Pulp Fiction one I'm afraid. All I'll say is Ving Rhames crossing the road with his doughnuts, spotting Bruce Willis in the car in the street, stopping in his tracks, turning and shouting "Mother-fucker!" Brilliant!

after having read this whole thing with all those hillarious posts i simply have to drop a line, too.

some mentioned Snakes on a Plane before, but always left out the greatest part when sam jackson yells: "I'm about to open some fucking windows.", shortly before shooting a huge hole in the airplane's wall.

and in addition, the susual suspects:

Interrogation Cop: "You know what happens if you do another turn in the joint?"
Hockney: "Fuck your father in the shower and then have a snack? Are you going to charge me dickhead?"

truly legendary......

For me Scorsese & Tarantino have turned swearing into an art form and plenty have alrady been mentioned.

Also Eddie Murphy always has great delivery.

Its great to see that I'm not the only one who thinks Midnight Run is a fucking classic!

However, the swearing in Planes Trains & Automobiles never fails to crack me the fuck up everytime.

Also if James Lipton were ever to ask me that question... it would be a variation of the word Fuck

Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Pretty good film but outstanding use of swearing.

Steve Martin's character has been through sheer hell trying to travel home. All without recourse to bad language.

Finally the car rental check out lady proves to be the final straw and Steve lets rip in quite possibly his last outright hilarious celluloid moment.

The reason you've probably not seen this gem of a scene is that it's always edited out of the fucking TV version.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this one. It's a true classic and a personal favorite. From Pulp Fiction:

Jules: ...What does Marsellus Wallace look like?
Brett: What?
Jules: What country are you from?
Brett: What? What? Wh - ?
Jules: "What" ain't no country I've ever heard of. They speak English in What?
Brett: What?
Jules: English, motherfucker, do you speak it?
Brett: Yes! Yes!
Jules: Then you know what I'm sayin'!
Brett: Yes!
Jules: Describe what Marsellus Wallace looks like!
Brett: What?
Jules: Say 'what' again. Say 'what' again, I dare you, I double dare you motherfucker, say what one more Goddamn time! Does he look like a bitch?
Brett: What?!
Jules: Does he look … like … a bitch?!
Brett: No-o!
Jules: Then why'd you try to fuck him like a bitch, Brett?
Brett: I didn't!
Jules: Yes, you did! Yes, you did, Brett! You tried to fuck him. And Marsellus Wallace don't like to be fucked by anybody except Mrs. Wallace. You read the Bible, Brett?... Ezequiel 25:17

Esponda nailed it in post 307 with the Pulp Fiction reference. Huge. Another one of my favorites is from Planes, Trains and Automobiles. It's simply epic;

Car Rental Agent: Welcome to Marathon. May I help you?
Neal: [indignantly] Yes.
Agent: How may I help you?
Neal: You can start by wiping that fucking dumbass smile off your rosy fucking cheeks. Then you can give me a fucking automobile. A fucking Datsun, a fucking Toyota, a fucking Mustang, a fucking Buick — 4 fucking wheels and a seat!
Agent: I really don't care for the way you're speaking to me.
Neal: And I really don't care for the way your company left me in the middle of fucking nowhere with fucking keys to a fucking car that isn't fucking there. And I really didn't care to fucking walk down a fucking highway and across a fucking runway to get back here to have you smile at my fucking face. I want a fucking car right fucking now.
Agent: May I see your rental agreement?
Neal: I threw it away.
Agent: Oh, boy.

There is a movie made in 2008 directed by Ryan Nicholson and casts Alastair Gamble and Don Ellis. It's named "Gutterballs" and contains 10 uses of the word c**t and at least 500 F-words, according to IMDb, not only did they mention 10 uses of the word c**t towards women, but the author said theres approx. 516 F-words (Not a typo!) and many other cuss words in only 96 minutes, 10 seconds! Here is few lines from Alastair Gamble: Shut you're f***ing mouth, I'll shove this bowling ball up you're f***ing c**t! (Other actor): Hurry the f**k up! (Alastair Gamble): F**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k! It's one of the craziest experiences I've ever had watching a movie.
