With the fan-favourite template set in stone and Batman Returns ensuring there was still a huge audience for this darker incarnation of the comic book hero, it would take a monumental act of ineptitude to screw things up. Step forward Joel Schumacher then, who, with the camp-fests that were Batman Forever and Batman And Robin, introduced a new age of rubbery costumes, ice-skate, credit card holders and, lest we forget, nipples. On the Batman And Robin DVD commentary, Schumacher claimed the batsuits were inspired by statues of the Greek gods. How wrong he was.
