Batman Dead End
In the years after Batman and Robin, this 2003 film by Sandy Collora, shot on film for $30,000, was hailed by fans as the template for how Batman should be done. There's some stunning work in it, particularly the angular, wild-eyed depiction of The Joker and a shot of Batman rising from the shadows, and it drew praise from Kevin Smith and comic book supreme Alex Ross. The only thing that lets it down is a late appearance by two cinematic icons who may have met Batman in comic form, but have no place in a Batman movie.
