Harley Quinn
Introduced during the excellent Batman: The Animated Series, Dr. Harleen Quinzel is the on/off girlfriend of The Joker. Later, her backstory explained that she was once a doctor at Arkham Asylum and fell for The Joker while treating him. After being understandably struck-off, she joins his gang.
Would she work in Nolan's world?
Absolutely, though not as a primary villain. The passing of Heath Ledger means there'll be no Joker in the next instalment, but an angry girlfriend railing against Batman for the love of her man would make perfect sense. The character's too insubstantial to be the sole baddie, being more of a sidekick than anything, but she could team up with someone else.
Who would we cast?
There were rumours that Sarah Jane Dunn, aka Mandy off Hollyoaks, would be introduced as the character in The Dark Knight. Not true. We still like the also rumoured Sarah Michelle Gellar, or maybe Mila Kunis, of Forgetting Sarah Marshall fame. She's cute and funny, but has an edge.
