Batman: The Man Who Laughs
What it's all about...
Bridging the gap between Year One and The Killing Joke (for more of which, read on), The Man Who Laughs tells the tale of Batman and The Joker's first encounter. Re-imagined from his original campy persona to the murderous jester that we all know and fear, The Joker attempts to take out the cream of the city's high society and then follows up with a plan to poison Gotham's water supply. Only the Bat can stop his evil plan.
Why you should read it...
You could argue that were it not for The Joker (who acts as an anti-moral barometer to Batman's staunch standpoint), The Dark Knight could have himself become the antithesis of justice. This one-shot graphic novel shows how their strange symbiotic relationship came to be.
