What it's all about...
A caped vigilante is prowling the streets of Gotham City and good cop Jim Gordon is determined to stop him in his tracks. Frank Miller's re-imagining of Batman's early years finds the young Bruce Wayne returning to his home town intent on dishing out his own brand of justice and meeting up with characters (Selina Kyle, Harvey Dent, etc) who would later figure greatly in his legendary career.

Why you should read it...
Following the Crisis On Infinite Earths cull (DC's reboot of its sprawling character back catalogue), Miller's tale became the accepted version of Batman's early career. A huge influence on all subsequent caped crusader tales (including Tim Burton's original Bat-flick), it's the Dark Knight story that you absolutely cannot do without.
