Welcome To The Jameson Empire Done in 60 Seconds CompetitionThe idea is, simply, to take any movie of your choice, grab a bunch of friends and remake it in no more than 60 seconds! It's your chance to show that the likes of Spielberg and Scorsese are really long-winded. Looking for inspiration? Check out last year's winners who dared to remix Cameron Crowe's Jerry Maguire to hilarious effect, and then triumphed on the night. If you want to be walking up the red carpet with all those other A-Listers, have a glance at these handy hints on how to make the perfect Done In 60 Seconds movie.
Danny Boyle's Tips On How To Make The Perfect Done In 60 Seconds FilmWant to enter our Done In Sixty Seconds competition but not sure how to go about it? Need expert advice from an Oscar-winning director? As ever, we are here for you - and so is Danny Boyle! Yes, the man behind Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire gives you expert advice on directing, and the secrets of how to win the competition.
Preparing The FilmRemake a movie of your choice - no originality please! (HINT: well known films make it easier for the public to vote for you). Create as many films as you want (it's your time).
Scriptwriting
Make your film in English or use English subtitles (HINT: makes it easier for the international Judges to understand what they are watching!) Don't slander anyone (no one likes a court case).
Shooting
Use your friends and family (but make sure everyone involved has agreed to take part). Some Technical Pointers... Improvised equipment from home can create special effects - Peter Jackson began by baking prosthetics in his mum's cooker. Make a boom out of a broomstick - okay, it may not look very De Palma, but we're going to need to hear what's going on. Create a dolly shot (the ones on tracks) with a wheelbarrow - it's what Sam Raimi did for The Evil Dead. Explosions and ballistics should only be attempted in controlled conditions - the idea is to have fun, not lose limbs.
Editing
Don't go over one minute in length, no matter how brilliant your movie, you'll be disqualified and that defeats the object. Don't upload films that are over 30MB (or you'll crash our server). Referencing is fine, but make sure you don't incur the wrath of Hollywood lawyers by infringing any copyright laws (i.e. using images, footage, pictures, etc. that don't belong to you). Original music can only be used if it's for no more than 30 seconds in its entirety.
So, In Summary...
FinallyEnjoy yourself! We await your masterpiece. The competition ends Friday 29 January. All entries will be judged by an expert panel, otherwise known as Empire Magazine, and whittled down to 20 finalists. These will be ready for you, the public, to vote for from Monday 8 February to Friday 12 March. All finalists will be notified on 19 March. |
