Exclusive: Simon Pegg Talks Scotty
We tried everything we could, short of pulling out a fire-arm or viciously beating him about the head and neck, to get something out of Simon Pegg about the plot of Star Trek. He wasn't playing ball, so we subjected him to wedgies of galactic proportions. Here's what Pegg, sporting unusually brown hair, would say:

On the current status of filming: "It’s going great. I’ve completed my scenes but I’ve got to go back in two weeks to do some effects stuff. But otherwise I’ve done it and I think it’s going to be fantastic."

On how his Scotty compared to James Doohan's from the original series: "Everything is just a tribute to James Doohan and it’s his role. I’m just very honoured to be able to step into his shoes. I just hope I do him proud".

On doing the Scottish accent: "I can’t really tell you what kind of Scotty he’s going to be because I’ll get sued. My wife is Scottish so I just channelled her merry accent and hopefully that’ll work."

On his favourite moment, as a Star Trek geek: “Just being there on the Enterprise, it was incredible. You’re going to love it."

So, yeah, nothing. Thanks a lot, Simon. We'll get you for this. (Actually, we quite love you. But not as much as we love Nick Frost's enormous sideburns).

Give Simon Pegg a Chance
I wasn't too keen at first about the casting of Simon Pegg as the new Scotty. After seeing some of his films and interviews, I think he will make a great Scotty. I He had a cameo in Dr. Who episode "The Long Game" that was just fantastic. I didn't recognise him under all the make-up at first. He has that cheeky sense of humour that I think James Doohan had. He is a real science fiction geek and a true fan. I am looking forward to Star Trek XI. ... Read More

RE: Well this is all opnion....
L: iamevilhomer! I wasn't suggestin Dominic West for this part (far from it)! but was only making the point that overall certain actors are more widely known and touted around Hollywood than others in general. More so, that certain (so called) actors should not travel across the pond at all (Pegg) where as others that do and prove themselves as brilliant actors (West) get hardly any recognition from the machine at all...(a part in the punisher seems more a punishment to me). Please pu... Read More

Well this is all opnion....
And in mine, Pegg is not only a 'average comedy actor at best' but a decent straight actor too, with fantastic comic performance and writing skills. His cheeky, cameo role in MI:3 probably secured him the role. As for this role going to a a bigger actor, the role isnt likley to be a big part anyway. I dont really see the problem, Dominic West is a talented actor but isnt right for Scotty or Tim in Spaced, no more than Pegg is right for Jigsaw in Punisher or McNulty in The Wire. So is this is ... Read More

Star Trek XI...
From what little I've seen, I really want this to be a great movie. since Leonard Nimoy is in it, I can't help but think this movie will be about the early years of Spock in the Federation and ending with him closing his journal many years in the future. I have yet to figure out how William Shatner will have a part since Vulcan's live many years longer then humans and Kirk died in "Generations". Also, after watching "Cloverfield" (having motion sickness thinking about it),... Read More

make it so!
in all honetsy, im not really bothered about the casting, if they can pull it off and make it another great star trek film like first contact or nemesis, then that will please me greatly. even so while im a fan of simon pegg im unsure about how he will work out, but im confident he will try his best, and to be honest, the film seems to be turning out great as it is. ... Read More
