Matt Stone and Trey Parker, turned to puppets to prop up their anarchic piss-take of just about everything going on in America: the left, the right, the gays, the straights, Hollywood, Broadway and King Jong-Il, tongue-tied president of North Korea. The style was Thunderbirds crap, strings very much attached, but the outrageous flourishes bordered on genius, especially their delightful recourse to song and dance numbers. It was as much an attack on the high-minded vacuity of celebrity as America's gung-ho foreign policy - Matt Damon's retarded squeaker is a gem. And the fact that it narked Sean Penn a hell of a lot more than George Bush, tells you they may have a point. |
