Thank you, thank you. Thank you very, very much for this award. I'm so sorry that I can't be there, it always seems so weird to do these taped things when I would much rather be there in that room with all of you having a wonderful time and enjoying a drink. Thank you to Empire Magazine and the readers. I know it's the 10th anniversary of the awards this year so just congratulations on doing so well and keeping going and staying true to movies because they are important and I just feel so blessed to be a part of this crazy business. This award really means so much to me. Eternal Sunshine was so much fun to shoot and so hard at the same time. And I would like to acknowledge the other cast members and Michel Gondry, who directed this film. It really was a team effort and none of this would have happened really and the film wouldn't have become this great thing that it has. And I think it's so cool and this is so cool and thank you and have a drink on me. Goodbye. LISTEN TO SPEECH [mp3 format]
WHAT EMPIRE SAID
Once Joel’s subconscious decides that the procedure is a bad idea and enlists the ‘memory’ of Clementine (Winslet at her most winning) in a daring escape plan, the movie picks up pace and starts to explore comic areas — teenage humiliation, suppressed trauma — that play to Carrey’s obvious strengths and best showcase the undoubted visual verve of Gondry.
ALSO NOMINATED Samantha Morton - Enduring Love Keira Knightley - King Arthur Imelda Staunton - Vera Drake Kate Ashfield - Shaun of the Dead
