"I'm very much at a loss of what to say. I didn't even know I was nominated tonight. I'd like to say thank you to all the Empire readers who were clearly very intelligent and could see that there was an actor involved in the part at all. I suppose I would like to say a big thank-you to Peter Jackson, to Weta Digital and all the animators that worked on the role, but fuck em - they're all going to get loads of awards anyway. I would like to say thank-you to Elijah Wood and Sean Astin who had to suffer nearly four years of me crawling around in a lycra outfit - they had to stare at my sweaty...all the bits hanging out. It must have been very gruesome for them, so I dedicate this to their patience. It was a great and very fascinating and interesting journey and if I was to say anything it would be that everyone should have a go, because it's really good fun. So thank-you very much indeed."
