Best British Film United 93
If there was one film from 2006 that left audiences frozen in their seats long after the credits had begun rolling, it was United 93. Paul Greengrass' masterly depiction of the events that took place on the only plane not to hit its target on September 11 was released amidst a furore of controversy, but was rightly applauded as a deftly crafted and respectfully handled piece of cinema-verité. With an unrelenting intensity, United 93 follows the passengers and the hijackers through their final hours, as those on the ground try to make sense of the unravelling chaos. A tragically unforgettable cinema experience.
