J.C. Chandor Charts Course For Deepwater Horizon
He's in talks for the oil rig disaster film

After making a dramatic take on real-life events with the financial crash-focused Margin Call and then heading out to sea for the fictional All Is Lost, writer / director J.C. Chandor appears ready to combine real-life events with watery strife, because he’s in talks to oversee Deepwater Horizon.

Lionsgate / Summit and Participant Media are partnering on the film, which will revolve around people affected by the 2010 explosion on the gigantic Gulf of Mexico oil rig that spewed crude into the ocean and coated local beaches, killed 11 workers and injured 16 others.

Summit began the process of developing a film based on the tragedy two years ago, scoring the rights to the New York Times article on the rig’s failure by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul. Snitch director Ric Roman Waugh was attached at one point, and Matthew Sand and Matthew Michael Carnahan have both worked on drafts of the script. Given his process on his two previous films, Chandor will likely take a crack at the screenplay himself.

Assuming the talks go well, Chandor will look to shoot the drama after he finishes work on A Most Violent Year, which stars Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain and hits US screens on November 12. That is reportedly heading to the UK on December 26.
