Shane Black Headed Back To The Jungle For New Predator
UPDATE: He says it's a sequel, not a reboot...

Shane-Black-New-Predator

UPDATE: The gang at Collider reached out to Black, who has clarified that it'll be an "inventive sequel". "As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway. Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine? I like the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”

Here’s something we didn’t expect: one of the original Predator cast is spearheading a reboot for 20th Century Fox, and it’s not Arnold Schwarzenegger. But before everyone fires up their mini guns and portable nukes in protest, the wrinkle is that Shane Black is the man headed back to the jungle.

Black, who gave his career a kick by co-writing and directing Iron Man 3 last year, has since been attached to several projects. But it appears that Fox has approached him to work on a new Predator at the same time. The writer / director will figure out a treatment for the new film, but is then handing script duties over to old pal and Monster Squad collaborator Fred Dekker.

Predator and Black go back a long way. When the 1986 original was still in development, he was a hotshot writer with Monster Squad and, more importantly, Lethal Weapon under his belt. The studio asked him to re-write the script more than once, a request he refused. He was then offered the small role of Hawkins in the film, which he agreed to take, but still refused to work on the screenplay.

Now he’s back for a project that will likely divide people into those who hate the idea of a Predator reboot sight-unseen and those who are willing to give Black the benefit of the doubt. He’s also working on noir pic The Nice Guys and is still developing a film based on 1930s pulp adventurer Doc Savage, so Predator may have to wait a while…

Sequel, not a reboot...
Hmm... after the AvPs and Predators, I'd like a reboot. The AvP's (more AvP2), didn't really do anything good for the mythos of the films, and Predators introduction of 'Super' Predators was a dumb move that needs to be wiped out. Otherwise, the whole hunting planet was a good idea. Plus, a reboot would help to solidify and bring together the mythos as a whole, and update it for a modern audience who may not have seen the orgionals, or felt the later films dumb. More

Smart move ...
We don't need another reboot. We just need good writing. Crack on, Mr. Black. More

Good job it's not a reboot then. Oh, and for the record, I liked Iron Man 3 more than the previous two and think Shane Black's appointment is a brilliant decision. More

RE: Shane Black Headed Back To The Jungle For New Predator
I'm so sick of the word 'reboot'. The studios are not in the entertainment business anymore, it's purely money. I wouldn't mind if these newer films were any better but they ain't. www.ohbrotherwhereartthougifts.com More

Problem-Reaction-Solution w/ Predator
Mr Black should explore the psuedo-deity angle from Paul W.S. Anderson's AvP; what if many a global conflict is engineered purely to provide our covert yautja 'gods' with good sport? A riff on the theory that our leaders answer to interdimensional reptilian entities. More

Get John Mctiernan to DA CHOPPA
I prefer Shane Blacks writing to his directing although I thought KISS KISS BANG BANG was fun an witty. Iron Man 3 on the other hand was an still is boring an mind numbing. I would like to see Mctiernan back but that's not gonna happen cause he's not hip enough and he's been off the radar for some time, to be honest I'd like to see Predator left alone but if they give this to a good writer like Shane Black you might as well follow through and get a good director someone like Blomkamp or get som More

RE: Shane Black = Iron Man 3 = shit
This is true. When watched back-to-back with the likes of o]The Running Manheer visual quality oforeaps off the screen at you. McTiernan doesn't get half the credit he deserves as a director. And he got shafted over the whole Pellicano wiretap scandal as well. (He wants to make a sequel to mas Crown Affairerce Brosnan's up for it. I hope it happens.) More

RE: Shane Black v Predator
Being sad and anal about it, I'd always kinda assumed it was some sort of low-yield neutron device with a smaller blast radius. But they are the dirtiest nukes of all, of course. So either way, Arnie probably was fucked at the end of that one. And judging by the wistful look on his face, he knew it. More

RE: Shane Black v Predator
L: chris kilby How did Arnie survive that nuclear blast, BTW? I've always wondered... ell given that in the second movie, set in 97, Keyes stated that Dutch was being treated for radiation sickness in hospital after the events of the first movie set in 87. He escaped the hospital, not long after Keyes team had interviewed him and hadn't been seen since... so for all we know the radiation sickness may have gotten him, even if Keyes still belied he was alive in 97. Also, given the explo More

I thought it would be great to have Dutch dumped onto the game reserve planet and teaming up with Adrien Brody and Alice Braga. In fact, chuck in Danny Glover as well and you have a new team! The fact that Black is involved can only be a good thing. I'm in fo sho! More

I'm up for this...
But only because of Shane Black. Otherwise it'd be a huge nope. Plus, Arnie as Dutch needs as least a cameo, but as suggested should probably be the new teams general. More

Doesnt need one
I don't think the franchise needs a reboot, Im all for an Aliens approach for a sequel. Get Arnie back as a general for a group of elite class of soldiers that goes on the offensive with high tech weaponry. Either base it back in a jungle somewhere like a Predator training camp or on a Predator space ship. More

And here I am, still waiting for that Predators sequel. Such an interesting story and universe expansion they'd come up with. Be a shame to scrap it all off. More
