If you've ever dreamed of seeing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson running up a tree and clubbing a gigantic wild boar about the face with a big club, this is the day you've been waiting for. The trailer for Hercules is here.
Directed by Brett Ratner and centring on the myths surrounding – you guessed it – Hercules, everyone's favourite Greek demi-god, this promises to be a darn sight grittier than Disney's talking imp-filled version from the late '90s.
Making things a little simpler, the 12 labors that define the complicated hero have already been completed by the time this film's action starts, though as you can see from the trailer, some are shown in flashback (which explains the giant wild boar). Shot in Budapest and requiring eight months of solid workout time for the Fast & Furious star, it's less green screen and more red blood.
Adapted from the Radical Comics title, the plot sees the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules' help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord. To do so, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail, he has to become a hero again – and discovers that the real battle will be for his soul...
With Ian McShane, John Hurt, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Aksel Hennie, Tobias Santelmann, Rebecca Ferguson, Joe Anderson and Ingrid Bolso Berdal in the cast, Hercules will stomp into our cinemas on July 25.
And with GOT on tv, I think I'll save my buck.
Such a shame none of these Ancient Epic Directors have any original takes on their stories. It just look like more stupid CGI-violence for the Disney generation, judging form the trailer.
Would love some real grit. More
