Gerard Butler Could Be Bodhi In Point Break Remake
Little hand says it's time to rock and roll

Gerard-Butler-Could-Be-Bodhi

After evolving from the long-planned sequel idea into a remake written by Salt’s Kurt Wimmer, the rebirth of cult actioner Point Break moved a step closer to reality last year with the hiring of The Fast And The Furious/Daredevil cinematographer Ericson Core to direct. Now Gerard Butler entering final negotiations for one of the main roles is another big leap forward.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Butler – who scored last year with Olympus Has Fallen and is set for sequel London Has Fallen – is signing up to take over Patrick Swayze’s iconic central part of Bodhi, zen leader of a crime ring responsible for several daring heists. While many of the plot elements will remain the same, including Bodhi’s bonding with an FBI agent named Johnny Utah who infiltrates his gang, the focus will be on new extreme sports in addition to surfing and sky diving as in the original. Keanu Reeves filled the Utah role in Katherine Bigelow’s 1991 film, but there's no word yet on who will take it on here.

Butler’s no stranger to either action or surfing on screen, after he played real-life wave-catcher Frosty Hesson in 2012’s Chasing Mavericks. He’ll be hoping for better luck this time, however, as a particularly big wave nearly brought his career – and his life – to an end while filming.

Here, his biggest challenge is likely to be making as much of an impression as Swayze on Hot Fuzz’s Danny Butterman, just one of those who cherish the original movie for its OTT sequences and often entertainingly shonky dialogue. Little hand says it’s time to rock ‘n’ roll…

What do you think about Gerard Butler playing Bodhi?
Back off, Warchild, seriously! There will only ever be Swayze.
REMAKE? Life sure does have a sick sense of humour, doesn't it?
100% pure adrenaline! I'm on board!
This is stimulating. But we're outta here.

L: MonsterCat L: waltham1979 From my point of view its not an hysterical reaction to a remake, after all there have been some genuinely good remakes along the years (The Thing, Dawn of the Dead etc); from my point of view its just the sheer exasperation at being done and the lack of original ideas flying around at the moment. There are so many other films that are probably overdue another look at and an update (Highlander, The Towering Inferno for example) that it makes me More

GO FUCK YOURSELF SAN DIEGO! Why remake a classic?? I really wish they would just take the cash they are considering pouring into this (potential) heap of shite and provide some funding for a number of independant films or pour the cash into an original fucking idea More

L: MonsterCat Gotta love hysterical reactions to remakes. You do know that Point Break won't stop existing just because it's getting a remake, right? rom my point of view its not an hysterical reaction to a remake, after all there have been some genuinely good remakes along the years (The Thing, Dawn of the Dead etc); from my point of view its just the sheer exasperation at being done and the lack of original ideas flying around at the moment. RE: Dude, wait...........WHAT?!
L: kielerkai Another pointless remake? Please, make it stop, make it end or I will get a brain aneurysm from all these soulless, toned-down, flat, uninspired, boring remakes (Exhibit A: Total Recall, So you have seen the robocop remake ?. If a film is remade its not that bad because guess what the film could be good and it's not like the original will be deleted. Stop getting so mad about a film getting remade. So remakes are good after all The Thing (82), Fright Night were great. More

RE: Gerard Butler Could Be Bodhi
Didn't they already remake this when they made The Fast & the Furious?   Point Break is one of my favourite 90's action films and if this film is shit then that won't change one bit. It does grate a bit that they're putting resources into remaking a film that doesn't need to be remade instead of coming up with new ideas but t'was ever thus really. More
