Ed Helms Set To Star In Naked Gun Reboot
Spoof is not reboot-proof

naked gun reboot

Hey, is that Enrico Palazzo? No, it's Ed Helms, who'll be doing his best take on the late Leslie Nielsen's immortal cock-up-loving cop Frank Drebin, now Paramount has decided to give the Naked Gun franchise the (re)boot.

In the writers' dugout are Night At The Museum scribes Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant. They wrote the planned Baywatch movie, as well as Rent A Ghost and the recently-announced Guinea Pigging, which is deemed worthy of Mitch Hurwitz (of Arrested Development fame) to direct, which is high praise indeed.

There are precious few details as to what the plot of the film will be - or what number it will have at the end of it - but die-hard Drebin lovers will no doubt be praying that Helms doesn't get any ideas about bleaching his hair white or bringing a stuffed beaver on set for no particular reason.

There's also no news as to whether Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker will be directly involved, despite being the creators of the original TV show, Police Squad!, and the Naked Gun trilogy itself.

But with the original series being so close to so many people's hearts, the question now is: how does this make you feel? Will The Hangover's (and The US Office's) Ed Helms cut the mustard? And will The Naked Gun really be the same without what Nielsen brought to the table (three arms, occasionally)? Let us know in the comment box below.

What's your reaction to a Naked Gun reboot?
Like swimming in raw sewage, I love it!
I'd say it has a 50/50 chance of being good - but there's only a 10% chance of that.
The big question is: who will play the OJ Simpson role?
THIS is The Final Insult.

Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy as his alter ego Clive Bixby (still with me guys?) is a essentially an excellent Drebin impersonation. They really missed a great casting opportunity here but since the film is bound to be apalling it's all a bit moot really. More

RE: Burn Hollywood, Burn
I hate the prospect of this as. HOWEVER If they really did go ahead with this, surely Bryan Cranston? I reckon he'd do a great job..... But generally, I really don't want this to go anywhere. Fuck, how long before Star Wars gets remade?! More

RE: Travesty!
Yeeessshhh..... its actually gotten to the point that Hollyweird is so bankrupt of ideas that they have to reboot/remake this? More

RE: noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Agreed. I like Helms - I really, really like Helms - but there's no Frank Drebin without Leslie Nielsen. They could make it a sequel, about a new Police Squad with Helms as a new character, but really should just leave it be. More
