Samuel L. Jackson Picks Up Cell
He'll star in the horror with John Cusack

Samuel L. Jackson

Though it has been through several different incarnations on its long trip to the screen, the adaptation of Stephen King’s phone killer thriller novel Cell seemed to pick up the pace again a little over a year ago, when John Cusack agreed to star. It would seem we’re on for a 1408 reunion now, because Samuel L. Jackson has hopped aboard.

In fact, the connection to that previous King-fuelled film goes even further, as 1408’s producer Richard Saperstein is behind this one. Tod Williams is set to direct, working from King and Adam Alleca’s screenplay, with production currently scheduled for January.

Cusack is starring as Clay Riddell, who escapes from Boston when a mysterious signal sent out by cell phones across the world starts to drive people violently insane. Jackson will be Tom McCourt, a soldier-turned-engineer who helps Riddell flee the city. Word of the actor’s involvement comes just as the project is being sent off to the American Film Market, to be paraded like a prize sheep in front of potential buyers.

The ever-prolific Jackson will be back on our screens in Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy (due December 6), followed by the new RoboCop on February 7 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier on March 28.
