Gerard Butler Wants To Be One Of The Gods Of Egypt
And Geoffrey Rush is locked in as Ra

300

The pantheon for Alex Proyas’ new project, Gods Of Egypt, appears to be growing by one. After playing a Spartan king in 300 and saving the President of the United States in Olympus Has Fallen, Gerard Butler wants to become a deity in the film. Well, they say you should dream big…

Butler is in talks to play Set, the god of the desert, storms and foreigners in the Egyptian mythology. If he does sign, he’ll be getting violent, killing and mutilating his own brother, Osiris. It's all part of his dastardly plan to murder their father, Ra. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Geoffrey Rush has signed on for that role.

His murderous ways bring Set into direct conflict with Osiris’ son, Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who teams up with Hathor, the goddess of love, and a human thief, to seek vengeance. Leonidas vs. Jaime Lannister? This could be one heck of a rumble.

Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama are writing the script and Proyas is guiding this one through development. With casting starting to heat up, it sounds like it’s moving along nicely, though no one should forget that the director got even further along than this with Paradise Lost before it collapsed. Still, Summit Entertainment seems to be firmly behind Gods, so we’d expect the cameras to be cranking soon enough. The big question: do half of these actors get to wear animal heads like in Stargate or will their own chiselled features be on display? Guess your guesses below.
