Johnny Depp Set To Return To Wonderland
And his company has a new Disney deal...

Alice In Wonderland

Apparently appearing in a film considered a flop (The Lone Ranger) is no bar to continued collaboration when you’re Disney and Johnny Depp. We know this because the Mouse House is keeping its lines of communication open and Depp has reciprocated by starting to lock in a deal for Depp to return as the Mad Hatter in the Alice In Wonderland sequel.

Muppets director James Bobin is apparently now aboard to call the shots on the follow-up, which will Disney will be hoping replicates the success of Tim Burton’s $1 billion+ grossing original. Linda Woolverton is once more on script duty for this one, which doesn’t yet have a set schedule.

In related Disney/Depp news, he’s also apparently moved his production company, Infinitim Nihil, to Mickey’s place, signing a new multi-year first look deal to develop and produce film projects. And let’s not forget he has a new Pirates Of The Caribbean adventure pencilled in for 2015, with Kon-Tiki directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg preparing to bring Captain Jack Sparrow back to our screens. Michael Bolton, at least, will be delighted.

Before that return to the ocean, Depp will be seen in Wally Pfister’s Transcendence and recently signed to work with David Koepp on Mortdecai.

I'm starting to dislike Depp
He's has become very lazy with the roles he's taking in recent years. THE LONE RANGER was a flop, he's due to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in the totally unnecessary fifth PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN and now this?! Mr. Depp, you need to fire your agent, tell both Disney and Tim Burton no more and go off and do riskier roles. More

Oh dear, Disney ...
... threw another couple hundred million away on a supposed franchise starter that nobody asked for and largely ignored during production. You'd think they'd put two and two together ... don't spend the GDP of a small country on a property nobody gives a shit about. Could they seriously, seriously, not have made the Lone Ranger for $100M instead of $215M? The amount of money being spent on big movies is putting me off to the point that I don't want to be complicit by watching them. It's pretty d More

The Flop Ranger
Depp has now anchored two flops in a row - Dark Shadows and The Lone Ranger - so getting back to the calculated basics via Wonderland and Pirates sequels is really understandable if not original or cool. More

Blah
I wish Depp would step away from these projects are return to some of the work interesting work of his youth. Perhaps he's just enjoying doing these films now (and probably enjoying the financial rewards too), but he hasn't starred in anything of note for quite some time now. More

Seriously?
The first one was such an embarassment, surely it's not worth all that money to be so utterly stripped of dignity again and again? At least Tim Burton isn't directing it this time, so I suppose there's some hope. More
