Gil Kenan Will Conjure Up Poltergeist
He's heeere... to direct the remake

Poltergeist

Originally announced when the rash of horror remakes was hitting its peak back in 2008, the new take on Tobe Hooper’s classic tale of malevolent spirits, Poltergeist, has since been howling away in some development nether dimension. It may have found a portal back into our world, however, as Gil Keenan is now attached to direct.

Kenan is best known as the man who made City Of Ember and, perhaps more fittingly (even though it was a CG ‘toon), Monster House. Things have been somewhat quiet for him since Ember, though he has several projects bubbling away.

We’re sure MGM will want him to put Poltergeist front and centre as it tries to re-imagine the 1982 chiller produced by one Steven Spielberg.

Nothing is known yet about the script for the new movie, or what it will do to the story of a family whose dream house becomes a living nightmare when spooks invade and start luring their child, Carol Anne, away. We do know, however, that Sam Raimi is producing this one.

Vadim Perelman was once tasked with the job of bringing the ghouls back to life, but he appears to have fallen afoul of the new film’s curse to linger in development. Perhaps now they will finally be here. The question is, will they be welcome?

No no no
This is such a bad idea. The original is perfect! It remains one of the best horror films ever. It touches on very real fears kids and adults have... plus the ghosts. There is no reason to redo what is already done correctly. Some things could use a reimage, some a reboot... not this one!!! More

Dont ruin it!
I loved the original. It is one of my favourite horror movies even when I was a kid! I remember staying up late with my dad watching this one when I was about 12 and I thought it was brilliant. So scary. or at least is was when I was 12 anyway. More
