Kasdan Rumoured For Star Wars 8
And Simon Kinberg may script 9

21 November 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Lawrence Kasdan, Simon Kinberg

Before we go any further with this, do bear in mind that a huge siren, like the collision warning on a Star Destroyer, is blaring in the back of our minds. Which signals, of course, that this is strictly a Rumour Alert. But Deadline’s sources have heard that franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan and Sherlock Holmes writer Simon Kinberg are in contention to script the second and third films in the planned new Star Wars trilogy.

Naturally, Disney isn’t commenting on the speculation, but if it does turn out to be true, it could be very good news. That's particularly so in Kasdan’s case, since this is the man who co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi - not to mention his work on Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Having Kasdan back as a Star Wars writer would surely lead to something special.

As for Kinberg, he has proven big film chops and knows how to make set pieces work. He’s most recently written X-Men: First Class sequel Days Of Future Past, which Bryan Singer is gearing up to direct.

This may all turn out to be nothing more than a wish list leaking out into the world, especially with Michael Arndt already locked in to write the first of the three. But given the fast pace Disney is looking for – roughly a film every other year after Episode VII arrives in 2015 – hiring other talent would be a sensible back-up.

So now? We wait and see. And remember: the Force will be with you, always. Except on Sundays and alternate Tuesdays, when it'll be with someone else.

star wars stuff
anyone who's ever seen and liked a star wars movie will have to be BLOODY strong with the power of either side of the force to not go see the new ones. it's just some sort of weird pull they have, like a crashed x-wing mysteriously emerging from a Dagobah swamp - it just defies logic but none the less, you watch it happen. i don't know much, but i do know this... i was 7 when New Hope came out and it sorta was a 'new hope' for me as a kid. movies back in the 70s weren't on the whole made fo More

You'll Still Go and Watch It...
Everyone moaning like frickin Fergie after 90mins...you WILL still watch them and anyone who says otherwise is talkin shite. Having said that I did say I would never watch a second Craig Bond movie after that Casino crap and stuck to it despite the hype! Anyway any Star Wars movie has to be better than Paranormal Activity fuckin 12! More

May the force be with you (forever and ever and ever)
I can't be the only one who's had enough of Star Wars. Why is there so much speculation about the new trilogy? Have we forgotton the dissapointment that was the last one? The original story, though it worked for the saga, was really quite basic, how and why anybody would want to spin nine films out of it is beyond me though the term 'Cash-Cow' springs to mind. Normally I 'm one of the more upbeat commenters on the site but this just isn't good news. Much as I like him as an actor Harrison Ford i More
