Django Unchained Trailer Arrives
'He is a rambunctious sort, ain't he?'

07 June 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Fandango

Revenge. Spaghetti Western. Bounty hunters. Quentin Tarantino certainly has cooked up a spicy, funny, violent and stylish stew for his latest offering, Django Unchained. If you’ve been itching to see footage after our report from Cannes, then you’re in for a treat. The first trailer is now online and can be seen below.

Jamie Foxx stars as Django, a slave who is rescued from a chain gang by German bounty hunter Dr King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Turns out that Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and Django can lead him to them. So a deal is offered: if Django helps the hunter find and kill the brothers, Schultz will free him completely and help him track down his wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington).

But while our hero takes to the life of a vengeful hunter quickly, he’ll still have to face down the ruthless-yet-charming Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), on his infamous plantation, Candie Land…

Full of the usual Tarantino strengths – cracking dialogue delivered by great actors (including Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell and Don Johnson) smooth visuals and great soundtrack work – Django Unchained has us eagerly anticipating its arrival on January 18 next year (America gets it on Christmas day). Mr Tarantino, you had our curiosity. But now you have our attention.

If it has yours, you’d be wise to check out the latest issue of Empire, available in print and both UK and US iPad editions, which includes an exclusive look at our visit to the set of QT’s latest.

Looks pretty damn awesome
Does anyone else think that in the early part of the trailer Jamie Foxx looks a bit like Jimi Hendrix with his afro and sideburns? More

This looks every bit as cool as I was expecting. Can't wait. Foxx looks alright actually, although Idris Elba would have been incredible. Love the use of the music, Waltz looks great and Leo is gonna' deliver something incredible here I think. More

God how I would love to see Idris Elba in the title role. Foxx is literally the only thing I don't like about the trailer, sadly, he's the title character! More

Looks cool, QT will always have my time as one of the few people actually making interesting original films. Seat is already being warmed for this one. More

Fox?
I like everything about this film apart from Jamie Fox. I never liked his delivery much (Collateral springs to mind) and as well as that he just lacks presences. I was worried that Will Smith would lead but Foxis no great improvement and hes always just rubbed me up the wrong way. Shame really as it looks like fun. More

My appetite is now wetted. Inglourious Basterds was enjoyable enough, but I'm hoping this time QT's a little cleverer with his homages and references. And this time no Bowie, and no fucking Eli Roth! More

RE: Django unchained trailer
This looks like the biggest Tarantino production so far...  excellence all round. And it looks like the most fun DiCaprio has in a role since he was The Kid!!     More

Django unchained trailer
Initially thought this would be really serious, given the subject matter. But it looks like Tarantino has again successfully combined some comedy (Di Caprio's eyebrows) along with the drama. More

Not impressed
Hmm... I'm not a massive QT fan, he's sort of an... auteur by numbers if you will, he gets things right, most of the time, but he's pretentious and over-rated in my opinion, plus I love the original, and i dont think this can live up to the epic cheesiness of Django More

Excellent! Bold Spaghetti Basterds.
Can't wait for this one! Looks beautiful and littered with great performances. I've never been a huge Jamie Foxx fan but he's really looking the part. More Waltz speaking QT's dialogue, what's not to like. More

This looks classic tarantino, brilliant cast, razor sharp script. Also only he could properly get away with that kind of soundtrack in this kind of film, long live quentin tarantino! More

Jackie Brown was great but...
by the looks of this QT made the right decision in doing his own thing rather than going with an adaptation of Elmore Lenords 40 Lashes Less One.An amazing cast (Bruce Dern,Franco Nero,Zoe Bell),but I just wish he could have squeezed in a role for Michael Parks as Earl McGraw`s Great-Great-Great Grandpappy. Be interesting to see if Sally Menke`s absense is noticable,I`m guessing the film will be dedicated to her. Can`t wait to see this. More

Wonderful cameo at the end of the trailer! Django meets Django!... Seriously, it is time for Franco Nero to have his long-deserved comeback. He's one of the greatest european movie stars of all time! More

"Gentlemen, you had my curiosity, now you have my attention."
It looks amazing. As I just said in the future films thread, DiCaprio looks like he's having loads of fun playing a Tarantino villain and I reckon he's going to steal the show. Again, it looks amazing. Cannot. Wait. More
