Alex Proyas Worships Gods Of Egypt
It's mortals vs ancients again...

18 May 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Alex Proyas Worships Gods Of Egypt

Though he had to shut down work on the pricey, ambitious adaptation of Paradise Lost, and has since switched tracks to the more manageable Robert Heinlein adaptation The Unpleasant Profession Of Jonathan Hoag, director Alex Proyas is still intrigued by ancient forces and godlike beings, entering negotiations to make Gods Of Egypt for Summit.

Little is known about the movie at this early stage, save that Dracula: Year Zero writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have penned a script that sees a mortal thief, a god and a goddess uniting to fight an evil force that rises in ancient Egypt. Proyas will apparently develop the screenplay further alongside the writers.

Wrath Of The Titans producer Basil Iwanyk (clearly another fan of legendary adventures) will oversee the movie, but there’s no schedule in place for production yet, with Iwanyk currently busy on The Seventh Son, with Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. Especially since Proyas will be focusing on Hoag first. He’s also down to shoot a segment of shorts anthology Sydney Unplugged and has other projects sitting in limbo, including Amped and his script for The Tripods, which we’re still hoping gets made one day. So don't hold your breath for this one, but let's all keep an eye out. Greek gods have been done to death; it might be Egypt's turn.

Your Comments

Could be interesting!
I quite enjoyed the likes of The Immortals and Wrath of the Titans, although they are certainly not oscar contenders I found myself nicely entertained so an Alex Proyas take on could be interesting as I quite like most of his work. More
