Chloe Moretz Talks Carrie
New version is 'More Black Swan'...

Chloe Moretz Talks Carrie

Word reached us last month that Chloe Moretz had landed the title role in the upcoming new version of Stephen King's Carrie. With Moretz currently out doing the rounds for Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, the subject of the telekinetic teen has obviously been raised more than once, and she's been happy to tease some details and generally enthuse.

Director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) is, Moretz told Coming Soon, "a total genius and the right woman for the job." She also claims that she's avoiding going anywhere near Brian De Palma's 1976 horror classic starring Sissy Spacek, but that her version will be "darker and more psychological; more Black Swan."

"We're really looking into Carrie's mind," says Chloe, "and into the relationship between Carrie and [her mother] Margaret." That relationship is, you'll recall, a fractious one to say the least, with Carrie's mousy lack of confidence stemming in no small part from her mother's fundamentalist craziness. The Margaret role was recently offered to Julianne Moore

"Carrie's completely different from me," says Chloe. "It's an out-of-body thing; I'm becoming a totally different person for it. I'm letting go of all my self-esteem issues and just going into it. You have to."

So you might bemoan the need for a remake (and there actually seems to be a lot of fan enthusiasm, for once), but you must admit, this sounds to be coming together rather well. After the DTV sequel and the cheap TV movie, it'll be good to have a quality Carrie again. Shooting starts in June.

RE: Empire
I'm quite looking forward to this. Chloe is a brilliant actress and should do well. And the original one was so terrible that this could not possibly be any worse. More

I approach all remakes with caution, most of them are awful. Some get it right but I always give them the benefit of the doubt. Chloe Moretz is a fine young actress and this will be a real stretch for her which is good. More

Really though?
Is it really necessary? I don't know. I want to be enthusiastic because it's a great story, grim and filled with really interesting characters. But as soon as the words "Black Swan" were introduced I suddenly felt less confident. Carrie is a face value character I found, all her insecurities and self esteem derived quite simply around her mother's misguided upbringing. Black Swan offered a duality to a character who was discovered her inner darkness. Carrie isn't about duality but abou More

Usually...
I'd scoff at the idea at another remake, and while I am apprehensive about the continuing rise in remakes/reboots/re-imaginings Moretz is one of the finest young female actress I've seen in years, Let Me In was much better than I anticipated and although I thought Hugo was a tad overrated her performance in it was good, of course everyone remembers her from basically stealing Kick Ass from under the rest of the cast so I'll leave off my judgement until i see this for myself.
