Moonrise Kingdom Trailer Online
Wes Anderson's latest has a promo

13 January 2012  |  Written by James White

Wes Anderson is not a man to suddenly eschew the filmmaking style he’s been comfortable with for years – in fact, it would probably take a gun to his head to convince him to tackle a big franchise film (though we would be intrigued to see what he’d do with, say Battleship 2). His latest, Moonrise Kingdom, is set to arrive this year and if the trailer is any indication, the only guns involved behind the camera are the ones he’s sticking to.

But then, that’s exactly why we like his work, and he’s certainly rounded up a great cast comprised of both newcomers to his singular, retro style (Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Ed Norton and Frances McDormand) and some of his regulars (Jason Schwartzman and MVP Bill Murray).

While they are the spice in the soup, the focus is on young Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, playing 12-year-olds Sam and Suzy. They fall for each other and decide to run away on an adventure. Trouble is, there’s a big storm headed for the island on which they live, so the adults in their lives have to scramble to find them.

Moonrise Kingdom is unlikely to nab many new converts to Anderson’s world, but already feels like it could be a warm bath of joy for fans. It’s scheduled to touch down in America on May 25, but there’s no solid info on a UK release date just yet.

Fab
Wasn't a huge fan of Mr Fox but this looks terrific. Anderson is back in Rushmore territory and with a cast this good, I can't wait to get a look. More
