Soderbergh Says Goodbye To U.N.C.L.E.
Director walks away from spy caper

Soderbergh Says Goodbye To U.N.C.L.E.

Director Steven Soderbergh has walked away from The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. According to our friends over at The Playlist, the director decided to step away from the Warner Bros. title he and writer Scott Z. Burns have been developing after the protracted casting process failed to turn up leads.

Rumours linking Matt Damon, Michael Fassbender, Johnny Depp and The Killing's Joel Kinnaman to the planned spy threequel have come to naught, while George Clooney was forced out of contention with a back injury. Soderbergh, meanwhile, is also thought to have baulked at creating a multi-location tentpole movie with a distinctly bivouac-like $60m budget.

With The Man From U.N.C.L.E. schedule to shoot in March, the studio will be scouring tinseltown for a new director, as well as a Solo and Kuryakin. Post your suggestions below. Head to The Playlist for the full scoop.

Good riddance to him!
If he doesn't possess to initiative or skill to find unknowns to fill the roles, and has to rely on big name stars, then the film may well be better off without him. Who knows how many actors are out there that could fulfill the key positions!? If the Oceans Eleven films are anything to go by, I'm more enthusiastic for this movie without the 'Sod' helming this project! That said, being a Hollywood movie, I'm sure it'll still end up with one of the usual suspects, one of the select few who have s More

Hamm or Fassbender as Solo, Skarsgard or Edgerton as Kuryakin. Maybe bring Richard Donner out of retirement for this seeing as how he directed early episodes of the actual show. Failing that, Doug Liman would be good. More
