Shiver our environmentally sustainable woodwork, it be a day for pirates. First up was news that Tom Hanks is helping bring a modern-day pirate tale to the screen, and now a different kind of buccaneer has washed up on the shores of Webland. It's Captain Jack Sparrow, the incorrigible brigand at the heart of  Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Aaarrrggghhh, as they say in salty circles.

Disney's new character poster shows Johnny Depp's seadog in familiar attire. It's not wildly different from the first promos we've seen, give or take the odd blazing galleon and saucy mermaid, but it does make us want to take up cutlass and guyliner in the cause of finding buried treasure and the like.

On Stranger Tides sees Jack Sparrow join Geoffrey Rush's Hector Barbossa in search of the Fountain of Youth. They face a challenge in their pursuit of the magical MacGuffin from scabrous cur Blackbeard (Ian McShane). Penelope Cruz, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Gemma Ward and Stephen Graham are also aboard, with Rob Marshall behind the tiller.


Ignore the release date, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is out in 3D and 2D on May 18 in the UK. Click here for a hi-res look at the poster on IGN.
