Judi Dench Locked In For Bond 23
But M won't let any plot secrets slip...

28 January 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: BBC

Now that the 23rd James Bond film is finally back on an official track – with a release date, Sam Mendes directing and Daniel Craig firmly aboard – the pieces are starting to fall into place, with Judi Dench making the less-than-shocking announcement that she’ll be returning as M.

As reported by the BBC, Dench was chatting with the press after the South Bank Sky Arts Awards, when she was naturally asked whether she’d be slipping into M’s suit and raising a caustic eyebrow towards Craig’s actions once again, to which she replied she would.

But when interrogated for any other details she might know? “Nothing... my lips are sealed. I can't tell you anything at all!” Just what you’d expect from the Head of the Secret Service.

That said, she seems excited to be getting back to work: "Of course, I'm looking forward hugely to working with Daniel again and with Sam who I've only ever worked with in the theatre. So that'll be all good fun to do! I'm so glad it's coming back, it's wonderful.”

No real surprise, then, that Dame Judi would be back as M, but there was always the chance that Mendes and co could have gone another way.

With a script from regular writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, plus The Aviator’s John Logan, Bond 23 (whatever title they give it) will arrive in cinemas on November 9, 2012. The biggest question we want answered now is whether Q Branch – even in a more realistic, less sci-fi gadgety fashion – will ever be featured again…

You know, it's just occured to me that before she was M, M must, presumably have been an agent herself. given she's not exactly young, that'd put her active in what? 60s? 50s maybe at a push? now those'd be some interesting films. More

Bond 23 in 2012
Throughout the delays engulfing Bond 23, I kept saying that whatever happened, the return of Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench was non-negotiable. Now, with Sam Mendes at the helm, let the sky be the limit, and I mean let the sky be the limit, because this is kind of a dream team, and I actually think something incredible is there to be achieved. New Dynamic
think its great as CR created new dynamic with bond out in the field and m, leiter running interference to keep the politictians and burecrats off his back. More

First thing: we love aston martins but please, no more! Once upon a time Bond would get an exciting new car and car chase each film. Now it's the same bloody make of car again and again. Get rid of the Bond girl also. They're sexy but sexist. All they do is scream or be 'fiesty': a well worn term for female characters in Hollywood, patronisingly put another way, 'energetic'. Daniel Craig made a good Bond and Judi Dench a fine M. But add even more explosions and exotic places.... More

how about a decent theme song thistime
If you remember the days when the theme song to a Bond film was something to get excited about support my campaign to get Ceelo to do the song for Bond 23. We've gone a decade without a decent one lets make a difference. copy pasteand like http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Ceelo-Green-to -do-the-theme-for-next-Bond-movie/148106775247900 More

Keeping the British end up
this is all very welcome news. God Bless Dame Judi. Bernard Lee was the first and a one off but it takes another original to fill his brogues. She is wonderful and long may she be in the series. Gadgets? OK, a few then. but please keep it simple. And for Godsake don't let them bring back anyone like John Cleese! Terrible, awful and utterly unwanted. wasn't Q in QoS anyway? And CR? He's that bloke in QoS who tried to get M's attention when she's going into the briefing room where they h More

Bond to be Good too!
I for one am glad Dame Judi is back as "M" I would welcome a return of "Q" branch. The one thing that bugged me about Die Another Day was the invisible car, it was just daft, so perhaps like the article said less Sci-Fi and more innovative and practical gadgetry is was is called for, something that would more the story along and I hope bond drives an Aston Martin or maybe a return of Lotus?!!! Purvis & Wade played some role in writing Casino Royale, so I'm not unduly bothered as long as there's someone to watch over their shoulders (not pressure then, Mr Logan). However, a few questions remain: will Dennis Gassner return as production designer (and the MI6 Vodka Bar HQ?). What will Bond be driving? As far as I know the contract with Aston Martin/Ford has expired. And as for the bad guy and the girls... More

I didn't think Purvis & Wade were writing it? Boo for Dench too. Never liked her. More
