True Grit Trailer Now Online
Oh boy Coens oh boy Bridges oh boy!

There are few things in the film calendar more exciting than the debut of a new Coen Brothers movie, and in that vein we're terribly pleased to bring you the first trailer for True Grit, their return to the West after the sabbaticals of A Serious Man and Burn After Reading.

This time they're joined by one of their best casts yet, led by Jeff Bridges' grizzled Marshal Reuben J Cogburn, Matt Damon's LaBoeuf and Josh Brolin's Ton Chaney. It also stars newcomer Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross and Barry Pepper as Lucky Ned Pepper. Hmm, some typecasting in that last role, we feel.

True Grit is out on Christmas Day in the US, and January 14 here in the UK. Why, that puts it slap-bang in the middle of awards season! Judging by this trailer, that's no accident.

Kim Darby's portrayal was quite close to Mattie in the book, though. Most of the characters weren't that far off IMO - it was slight alterations to the storyline and outcomes and to the themes that reached the screen. The focus on the bible passage in the trailer suggests that might come back into more focus in this version.   Certainly looks like a film I'll watch - I'm not sure what seems awardworthy about it just from that though. The original is one of my favourite westerns ( More

RE: looks good but...
One of the best and most tempting trailers I have seen in a while. Surely there's going to be an Oscar or two in there!! More

L: vad3r And the Oscar goes to... he Social Network! eriously though, and just to back up Leroy's point about the original film, as good as this looks it doesn't appear to be drastically different from the original. That was a pretty dark film, at least for Wayne, and the girl, while younger, has a very similar manner to Kim Darby. Don't get me wrong, I'm really, really excited about this, but its not the drastic change of direction that was suggested. Here's hoping that it will be t More

RE: awards
Jeff Bridges looks badass... give El Duderino a handgun and he'll fuck you up. Best trailer of the year in my opinion. More

RE: Can't wait
I didn't even need a trailer to be excited about this, but it certainly didn't hurt! If there's any sure bets right now for the Oscars it's Deakins finally winning. More

Looks awesome! BTW, this is not even a remake. Kinda like: Batman Begins was not a remake of Batman -89. This is another adaptation of the book, and according to the Coens it's more faithful to the source material than the previous film. More

Can't wait! True Grit looks truly great and in the hands of the Coens...there's a good chance it will actually be! January? Pfff. Bring it on now! What else is there to watch? Marmaduke? More

How refreshing to have a non cookie cutter style trailer. It gives just enough of a flavour for the film, without showing the entire plot condensed into 60 seconds. Looks great, and will hopefully deliver the goods come January. One remake that I have actually been looking foward to since it was announced. More
