Exclusive: Pegg and Frost Talk Paul
Close encounters of the nerd kind

18 August 2010  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen

They've foiled a zombie infection of North London (kinda), unleashed havoc on the corrupt and unjust of the West Country and slacked around Meteor Street playing computer games. Next on the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost funride? It's aliens - or alien to be exact - a little green fellow called Paul the pair encounter in a road movie that pays homage to all things cinematically extra-terrestrial.

"Paul is a road movie about two British guys who go to Comic-Con as part of a tour of extra-terrestrial hotspots," explains Pegg. "While going past Area 51 they bump into an alien whose name happens to be Paul and they help him on his quest to return home. It's boys-meet-alien."

The pair are part of an ensemble cast boasting some serious comedy credentials with Superbad's Greg Mottola behind the camera. They line up alongside Kristen Wiig, Jeffrey Tambor, Bill Hader, Jane Lynch, with Jason Bateman as the magnificently monikered FBI agent Lorenzo Zoil hot on the heels of the alien interloper. Sigourney Weaver provides additional alien expertise, and much on-set awestruckness. "(Director) Greg Mottola had to have lunch with her before casting and I remember just sitting there watching her eat a caesar salad," says Frost. "A caesar salad! Not with a loader, just with a fork."

You can board the Winnebago when Paul is released on February 18, 2011.
