Ellen Page, soon to be found breaking and entering people’s dreams in Inception, has signed on to Endgame Entertainment’s adaptation of an Oscar-scooping short documentary called Freeheld.

Cynthia Wade scored the award for the film in 2008, which followed New Jersey mechanic Stacie Andree who battled to win pension benefits after her police girlfriend Laurel Hester was struck with a terminal illness. Page has agreed to play Andree.

Ron Nyswaner, who himself came close to an Academy Award for writing Philadelphia, will adapt the documentary into a drama. He last worked on Hamlet for Catherine Hardwicke.

"As a documentarian and feature producer, you always look for powerful stories with subject matter that will resonate with audiences, and Cynthia's remarkable chronicle of the battle forged by two women did just that," Endgame boss James D Stern told The Hollywood Reporter.

There’s no word on a director or a start date yet.
