Timur Bekmambetov Hitting Red Asphalt?
He’s attached to the 3D thriller

08 April 2010  |  Written by James White  |  Source: LA Times

Okay, now we’re convinced that Guillermo del Toro and Russian director/producer Timur Bekmambetov really have made some sort of bet to see who can get their names attached to the most projects. Timur’s latest? Mystery 3D thriller Red Asphalt.

Little is known about this latest film, though the LA Times has heard it’s an “edgy story”. And the title seems to scream blood on the road. But Lionsgate picked up the pitch from writer Andrew Baldwin and Bekmambetov, who is already attached as a producer, is now thinking it might be his next directorial job, assuming Wanted 2 really has had to go back into the script warehouse for retooling after Angelina Jolie ditched it.

It seems like every week we’re reporting on something or other that the Russian dynamo has become involved with, whether it’s The Witch Hunter, Moby Dick, both of which he wants to direct, or the movies he’s producing like The Darkest Hour and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

One of these days, he’ll finally commit to something. And given Asphalt’s 3D nature (an element every studio is craving these days), don’t be surprised if it gets into pole position.
