Game Over For Metal Gear Solid Movie
According to producer, Mike De Luca

If you’ve been chewing your nails, waiting anxiously for a Metal Gear Solid movie to hit the big screen, we’ve got some bad news for you. Your nail-chewing has been in vain, according to our old chum, Frosty from Collider.

He’s reporting, as part of a series of exclusives from his interview with producer Mike De Luca, that the videogame adaptation has ground to a halt. For now. “I don’t think it’s going to move forward because I got the sense that there may not be enough of a coordinated will at this point on the side of certain parties to see a movie get made,” said De Luca.

Those certain parties are, of course, Sony – who hold the movie rights to the mega-selling game – and Konami, the game’s creators. But it seems that Konami may have been the spanner in the works. “Video game companies are very protective of their property and there are certain things a studio requires freedom-wise to market and distribute a movie effectively in a global marketplace and sometimes getting those two things to match up is really hard,” added De Luca. “In the case of Metal Gear Solid… it was just kind of impossible to get the agendas to match up.”

As Frosty himself notes, you’d imagine that transplanting the adventures of grizzled hero, Solid Snake, to the big screen would be something of a no-brainer. But it seems that Konami is being very protective of its hero – perhaps, given the iffy track record of videogame adaptations, they’re doing the right thing.

But nothing is set in stone, of course, and it’s hard to keep a good Solid Snake down. If Prince Of Persia and, further in the future, Warcraft do great business, the Metal Gears may start grinding again.

Good
MGS doesnt need a film...it would never be as good as any of the 4 games so im glad they havent wasted millions on a sub-par movie. More

Giant Exclamation Mark
I actually look at MGS as the best film i've ever played, and so the idea of Kurt Wimmer directing this made me sick. This has Cameron all over it, but it's too similar to what he's done before. Mann would be great but his action style and tone doesn't suit the games. Yes, i would love to see Michael Bay's Metal Gear Solid, just as long as Kojima keeps him away from the script. I keep expecting Len Wiseman to get involved, which would not be a bad thing. As for Snake, I only ever saw Eric Banna. More

good riddance
Good riddance, stop trying to cash in on video game franchises you money obsessed producers; your whats wrong with film these days with your high budget, CGI, blockbuster vomit. Go donate your money to charity or make a decent film and stop wasting our money and the many hours of our lives watching the rubbish you adapt. More

Not happening
If Kojima wanted to make movies, he would be doing so already. The problem is he wants to fit in 20 hours of plot, so he makes games instead. Hopefully Konami have some sense and dont sell out. More

If....?
As a fan of Solid Snake, and admitter that the games are epic and make me cry like a little girl at points...yes you read right. By all means make a film, but keep it CGI and have David Back to voice him and Kojima to direct. Win/Win situation in that method. Thoughts? More

To be honest...
Thank god for that, MGS should stay as a game unless they get somebody who is a GENUINE fan of the games to direct/produce. Good to see that Konami are possibly being over-protective, they seem to have the common sense not to squander a licence with fantastic potential if done correctly. More

Shame
If they had got someone like Mann to make this film and cast Christian Bale, then this could have been awesome!! More
