Sherlock Holmes Trailer Online
Victorian London was explosion-y!

19 May 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara  |  Source: Yahoo

submit to reddit

Well, here's our first proper look at Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, the all-action, all-explosion, all-nudey new take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary detective. Investigate it for yourself here in HD or watch it now below.

What does this teach us? First of all, that Ritchie wasn't kidding about the film being much more action packed and violent than we're used to seeing from the man in the deerstalker. Secondly, that he isn't wearing the deerstalker, as we were told. Thirdly, that there are hints of sex appeal to keep the parents interested amid all the silly running about for the kids. Most of these appear to centre on Rachel McAdams' corset.

Sherlock Holmes is out here on Boxing Day, and looks like the perfect way to get your adrenalin pumping and burn off those Christmas calories.

not really ever been into sherlock holmes, or guy ritchie....and i fucking hate Jude Law ......but this looks like good fun. Even if it's utter crap, I'll just switch off and stare at Robert Downey Jr and hope the film gets stuck on the bit with him handcuffed to a bed......... More

He ain't no Robin Hood
Trailer looks good, set to capture the magic that made these two kick ass detectives. And if Downey Jr's accent falters a little, remember, at least he is being faithful enough to the mystique to try....Kevin Costner obviously thought Robin of Locksley could do without one. More

He's just like he was in the books, this is going to be fantastic! Finally they arn't dressing up holmes and now he's the character he always was! To all of you saying this is not true holmes, just read the books, this is gonna be great! More

Hee!
I'm not sure whether the promotional stuff for this film was intentionally misleading or just really vague - but if it's the former, I want to shake someone's hand for pulling the wool over our eyes. Of course it's all wrong! It's a comedy! This is the Pirates of the Caribbean of detective films. (I say that advisedly because does RDJ's performance remind anyone else of a certain highly regarded pirate?) Anyway, now I've understood that it's a straight-up piss take, I think it looks fantasti More

why?
Why not just invent a new detective if all Ritchie wanted to do was make an action film with "kooky" characters and an apparently supernatural detective story. The fact that its called Sherlock Homes seems totally pointless apart from using an established character to sell it. More

RE: Looks.....
How is it that sometimes the mere premise of something can completely elude people?  People who start bitching that 'OMG it's all Hollywood-y and action-packed' or 'It looks like a buddy movie' or 'Has Guy Ritchie ever read Holmes!?  WTF' etc. This was not supposed to be an adaptation of any of Conan Doyle's Holmes stories, much like Barry Levinson's Young Sherlock Holmes acknowledged itself as an affection 'What If?'.  The concept of this film is to intentionally take the p More

I loved the Jeremy Brett adaptations. I loved the original books. I loved the ethos and mysteria surrounding one of the most complex literary characters ever created. RE: Looks cool...
woo, an action packet, eh? As has been mentioned above what they've done is taken a couple of fleeting references to Holmes's active side and blown them all out of proportion. Holmes was cerebral. That's the whole bloody point of the character. He was also openly contemptuous (afraid?) of women and so this louche, dissolute stuff has actually no basis in the stories whatsoever. It's just more RDJ than anything else. I like the idea of a Victorian period action romp as much as anyone but it look More

Hmmm... A trailer shouldn't bore the life out of me, but somehow Ritchie pulls it off. It's a short trailer for an action film, yet he still manages to make it boring. Even the always excellent RDJ isn't able to keep me interested. At least Ritchie set him self a benchmark so low (Revolver) that he can always be confident that the critics won't call his latest film as being his worst. More

All in all it looks like quite the ripping yarn, but why Holmes? It looks like they're completely getting rid of the Holmes character and making him into a John McCalne of the 19th century. A more apt fit for that would probably have been Allan Quatermain or any other literary go getter. Holmes?! Not so sure.
