Star Trek Trailer Now Online
It's officially here in high quality

17 November 2008  |  Written by Helen O'Hara

submit to reddit

It's been a long time coming, and there have been grainy pretenders online all weekend, but the moment you've been waiting for is finally here: the Star Trek trailer is online, and it's every bit as thrilling as we'd hoped.

This is our first official glimpse of Chris Pine's James Tiberius Kirk, Zachary Quinto's Spock and their crew in action, and it promises to stay true to the canon as well as being action-packed. Look out for the first lines we've heard from Simon Pegg's Scotty and Karl Urban's Bones, as well as Eric Bana's villain getting his sinister on.

RE: Whinge all you want
I was glad to read your reply and can appreciate the explanation of your point of view. Point taken. I agree that the slant towards mindless entertainment is disturbing but films like 'The Dark Knight' makes me cling to hope that true success will come to those films that balance all facets of a good movie. I still have faith in ST though and will reserve judgment until I see the film. It may be a lot of flashy lights but im looking forward to the back and forth between characters - if that More

RE: Hurrah!
See I think someone like Steven Moffat could write a great Star Trek as he is able to focus on the relationships while also delivering on cosmic ideas. Also has the right sense of humor for this sort of thing.   Moore likes exploring flawed characters  - he reinvented Sisko (which I agreed with) and turned Deep Space Nine into something special. But the things he is interested in don't meld brilliantly with the idea of a good old space adventure.   If anything Moore is More

oh, i don't buy that. Moore's DS9 was hilarious at times; the O'Brien / Bashir interactions, for instance, or almost anything with Worf. Battlestar is a little glum at times, I grant you, but it's also darkly funny too. Baltar is a riot, for instance. (it's also second only to The Wire in my list of "best TV show EVER, so yeah, i love your avatar...) Moore would have been number one on my list as he's a proven visionary, a fan steeped in the history of the show and someone who's not afraid More

I think Moore is a wrong fit for a Trek film. You can see his influence in some parts of First Contact but he has a tough time getting the humor out of the characters. Actully I would argue the central theme of Star Trek 2 - 6 was about aging. For a massive series of films it is remarkable to think that the average age of the cast must have been well over 50. But where some film would not wish to highlight this it was woven into the fabric of the film series, something which I think goes unnoticed at times. For a sci-fi film franchise to not only accept this fact but embrace it is something which wouldn't be done nowerdays. And I personally think t More

The Search For Spock (and the fianl parts of Khan) are about death and re-birth, not small issues; The Undiscovered Country (my favorite) is a direct analogy for the Chernobyl disaster, the subsequent thawing of the cold war and the need to set aside historic enmities and differences to move forward (certainly a prescient comment...). I think Abrams has gone on record as saying that in the quest to make this film attractive to non Trekkers, he's amping up the action.   If I could predict based on what I've seen and read so far.....   1) The battles will be Star Wars-paced. 2) The characters - mainly Kirk and Spock - will be well served, with some surprises that Trekkers might feel a bit shaken by. 3) After most of the characters have met and the Enterprise is on its way, the story might fall by the way More

RE:
L: Funk Flashy equipment and new 'bad' actors with ANOTHER evil indestructible ship and revolving around Vulcan (again) = a bad trek film. JJ is clearly trying to bring in a new audience and he doesnt care how many peep who have enjoyed the franchise until now think of it! sp; But we haven't had a film revolving around Vulcan....   I'm sorry, did I just ruin your argument? Looks Awsome..............
The moaners are back. You just can't help yourselves. The trailer looks sweet and lets be honest, most of the ster trek films sucked and probably 60% of the episodes of the combined series. If you don't want to see the film then don't but stop moaning. Personally i can't wait.......... More

Faith in humanity waning....
The Enterprise wasn't built on earth? The uniforms and hair are too close to the TV show? The bridge looks silly?   The skirts are too short?   The TRANSPORTER EFFECT isn't quite right?     Jeeeeeeee-sus......     More

RE: reality check time...
"I'm not some Luddite trekker.....but simple things need to make sense within the ST universe. Things like the enterprise not being built on earth" what a load of tosh! I've seen all the films and watched a lot of the TV shows and it doesn't offend me that things may be SLIGHTLY different, some people need to grow up and accept its a film not real life and therefore changes can be made, I'm looking forward to it and it looks like its gonna be entertaining, which after a few of the ST films More

RE: reality check time...
L: magnusbarfod this trailer is many things but it sure as hell isn't Star Trek. The problem is with Abrams. He's not a ST fan really, and whilst I realise the franchise needs a new take on things, why bring in someone with, at best, a passing interest in the source material and so little concern for the existing fans? I'm not some Luddite trekker, clinging to the past canon, but simple things need to make sense within the ST universe. Things like the enterprise not being built o More

Yeah im gonna go against the mass 'i love this movie by empire until it comes out and only probably give it just a 2/3star' and say it looks v bad! 'Maximum WOW... I mean Warp'
I thought I was watching the wrong trailer for a sec there and then bam! the one liner from the kid told me I hadn't stupidly clicked on the wrong link, but had entered into a realm of pure genius! Star Trek's been revamped and reborn ladies and gentlemen. The only thing is the wait isn't over, it's just begun. More

Star Trek with sex in it ? Well I never ! I'm afraid this is in danger of mediocrity - how many times have we seen the roguish hero get given a chance to fulfil their destiny yada yada, although Zachary Quinto will do a good job with Spock I think. The guy playing Kirk looks like a charisma-less surfer. More

RE: WHOA!!!!
I am one of the many who've been bitterly dismissing this film since its conception was announced. I have always thought that the entire universe and its  fan-base, the TV series, the stupid costumes and the stupider aliens, were just plain awful. I'm a die hard star wars fanatic.   I'm socially-adept   I do not indulge in fancy dress.   And yet this trailer... this Holy-DAMN! trailer... iIn the space of about two minutes, rung out my tiny little mind, and More

Not sure...
People seem a little over excited. I'm not convinced. Spock looks way too emotional - isn't he supposed to be all logic? The car chase / cliff hanging set up is way OTT. The Bridge looks like it's designed by Apple. The uniforms are too close to the TV show - short skirts on the females?? It's too 60s throwback pastiche rather than real re-boot. The comment above about "Lost In Space all over again" could be spot on. I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. More
