New Line had to hang out the Director Wanted sign in front of the Horrible Bosses sequel last month, after original megaphone man Seth Gordon realised he’d crammed his work diary too full and had to drop out. Still, the company hasn’t taken too long finding a replacement – or rather, replacements – in the shape of Sex Drive and That’s My Boy duo Sean Anders and John Morris.
The pair has form with the studio, after they helped to write its most recent comedy success, We’re The Millers. It probably doesn’t hurt that Millers starred Jason Sudeikis, who will return for the Bosses follow-up alongside Jason Bateman and Charlie Day. As with Sex Drive, Anders will be the one calling the shots, while Morris acts as producer.
Though Bosses writing team John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein crafted the first drafts of this sequel script, Anders and Miller – who have also worked on Dumb & Dumber To’s screenplay and polished Mean Moms for New Line – are set to take a crack at a re-write before shooting begins.
As for the plot, that’s anyone’s guess at this point, but we’re fairly certainly there will be bosses in it and that they will be horrible. We broached the subject of the film to Sudeikis when he was in the Empire Podcast booth recently, and you can hear what he had to say below (the Horrible Bosses chat starts roughly 53 minutes into the episode.)
