Carla Gugino Off To Wayward Pines

Carla Gugino

His latest cinematic effort, this year’s After Earth, didn't win him any renewed credibility, so M. Night Shyamalan will be hoping that his foray on to the small screen will be more successful. He’s behind a US TV “event” series (read: miniseries) called Wayward Pines, and Carla Gugino has scored one of the lead roles.

She’s joining Matt Dillon in the tale of Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Dillon) who arrives in the picturesque titular town on a hunt for two missing federal agents.

Because this is a mystery series, he naturally finds more questions than he does answers. Gugino will be Kate Hewson, Burke’s ex-partner in the Secret Service, who moved to the town a few years ago. As she helps delve into the case, their old romantic feelings start to build again.

Shyamalan adapted the concept from Blake Crouch’s book Pines and Chad Hodge is in charge of running the show, which is set to air next year. It remains to be seen whether it ends up a new Twin Peaks or a new Hidden Palms…
