Star Wars: Clone Wars Ending

It’s an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan, what with all the build-up to the new trilogy spearheaded by JJ Abrams with Episode VII. But it appears the focus on fresh filmmaking comes at a cost, specifically to Lucasfilm Animation, as the company has announced that long-running ‘toon Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be ending, and Seth Green’s planned official parody series Star Wars Detours is being put into carbonite for now. 

With eight years and more than 100 episodes under its belt, the Clone Wars series has been the principal supplier of stories from the galaxy far, far away in the last decade, set between the events in Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith.

Yet with the shift in focus to the new trilogy, the Lucasfilm team has decided to close the door on that fragment of the universe. “We feel the time has come to wind down the series,” says the official announcement. "While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we're continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen.”

It’s also somewhat bad news for those who were awaiting Robot Chicken duo Green and Matthew Senreich's new sanctioned comedy series Detours, which is headed for limbo. “Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, we've decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later date.” We hope the Emperor will be mollified by news of the new series in development…

Shame, but not unexpected
Clone Wars was getting better and better but was going to finish soon anyway. Can't wait to see what they do with the final season... and hope the same team get to work on something new soon. As for Detours, Seth Green and the team must be so pissed off. Still, that thing's been in production for ages with nothing to show. More
