First Trailer For Inside Llewyn Davis
The Coens get folky

24 January 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: YouTube (Via MTV)

Crackling dialogue. Gorgeous cinematography. John Goodman. Yes, we’re fully in Coen brothers territory here with the first trailer for Inside Llewyn Davis, and it feels darn good to have them back. Check out the footage below.

Based loosely on Dave Van Ronk’s memoir The Mayor Of MacDougal Street, the film finds Oscar Isaac as Davis, a folk musician plying his trade around 1960s Greenwich Village, New York.

It’s not the easiest life for our Llewyn: his lover Jean Berkey (played with dripping, caustic sarcasm by Carey Mulligan) berates him and he attracts the attention of Goodman’s low-rent agent type.

Also in the cast? The likes of Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham and Girls’ Adam Driver.

There’s not much of a sense of the overall story here, besides Llewyn’s life issues, but it certainly gives us a taste and we want to see more. In fact, this is giving us that Barton Fink feeling all over again, and that's no bad thing.

But the craziest thing? Despite the Oscar-scooping, well established writing/directing/producing duo at the head of the film, it still doesn’t have a major distribution deal except in a few European countries. We expect that to change, and to get a proper release date announcement, soon.
