New Top Gun 3D Trailer
Holy shit, it's Maverick and Goose

Top Gun

If you've got a hot cup of coffee in your hand, now might be a good time to put it down because this man is requesting permission to buzz the tower. Yes, there's a new Top Gun 3D trailer in town and it's viewable over at Yahoo! Movies. Click here to see Maverick and Goose in action.

No-one should need the plot explained at this point, which is fortunate because there really isn't one. Suffice to say, hot-shot Tomcat pilot Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell - played by future half of an actual TomKat, Tom Cruise - has some daddy issues, a chip on his shoulder and talent to burn. Twenty-seven years on (gulp) from his first big-screen appearance and his ego is still writing cheques his body can't cash. Although obviously these days it'd be more of a chip-and-pin scenario.

For all its kitsch joys and over-the-top beats, Tony Scott's airborne actioner divides people, but Top Gun on IMAX? We're in. Seriously, it isn't every day you get to see Michael Ironside's head in 70mm.

If you're in America, you can catch it on the very big screen from February 8-13 - you lucky people - although there's no news of a UK IMAX release yet.

Oh No....
A message to the film community: PLEASE STOP RE-RELEASING OLD FILMS IN 3D!!!!!!!!!! THEY ALREADY HAD THEIR SHARE OF THE SILVER SCREEN... I CAN ENJOY THESE AT HOME WITHOUT HAVING SPENT MY HARD-EARNED MONEY PLUS 3D IS SOO OLD AND IT NEVER WORKS! More

IMAX
I dont know how they did it all that time ago but I saw Top Gun on IMAX at the Toronto Cinesphere ( the world's first IMAX movie theatre btw ) in the late 80's and quite frankly I remember finding it baffeling at times trying to work out which plane was which during the flying sequences when it was so in your face. Good fun though. More

The Brokeback Mountain Of The 80s
Top Gun is the gayest movie ever made (even Tarantino has a theory about that); from the odd Cruise/Kilmer vibe to the slow-mo volleyball scene full of oiled-up, buffed male torsos, it's virtually unwatchable by straight men (only women and gay men would want to see all that in 3D anyway). It's not a great movie either, basically a pop video strung out to movie length full of unconvincing phoney sentiment. The only poignancy about the whole thing is the sad suicide of director Tony Scott. More

Why bother ?
3D conversions of old movies are POINTLESS.Any 3D is pointless and today this film is just camp to the extreme. More
