Photos: Django Unchained UK Premiere
Leicester Square takes this Waltz

11 January 2013  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen

Django Unchained UK Premiere

It's not every day you get to celebrate five Oscar nominations and your movie's premiere on the same day. This is officially a blue riband for a filmmaker scenario and Quentin Tarantino did everything short of riding through Leicester Square firing pistols in the air to celebrate Django Unchained's official UK bow.

Of its nominations, QT's Southern picked up a Best Film and Best Screenplay Oscar nod, as well as a Best Supporting Actor shout for Christoph Waltz. The pair shared the red carpet and will share a second night at the Academy Awards, after Inglourious Basterds' stellar 2010, next month.

Hopefully it will be more than slightly warmer at the Kodak Theater - not that the chill was putting the mockers on Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington and, erm, Ron Howard's partying. The director / writer / actor / producer / cunning-premiere-ligger was taking time out from polishing off Rush to attend.

Get the low-down on Django Unchained here or wait for its release on January 18. In the meantime, head to our bells-and-whistles Oscar infographic for all the Academy prospects and lots of pretty diagrams to boot.
