Spielberg Offers Robopocalypse Update
'I'm working on it as we speak'

Robopocalypse

If you were worried by yesterday’s announcement that Steven Spielberg was planning to halt work on techno-fear adaptation Robopocalypse, take heart. The director has assured Entertainment Weekly that it’s still very much in play.

The whole “indefinite hold” thing was a cause for a concern, but now the director has said he estimates the delay to be around six to eight months - which is a little more definite and therefore heartening.

Also good to hear was even more of a reason to hold off: he thinks he’s locked in a way to make it better. “We found that the film was costing a lot of money and I found a better way to tell the story more economically but also much more personally,” Spielberg tells the magazine’s Anthony Breznican. “I found the personal way into Robopocalypse, and so I just told everybody to go find other jobs, I’m starting on a new script and we’ll have this movie back on its feet soon.”

Whether that means Robopocalypse scriptwriter Drew Goddard will once again pressed into duty or if someone else will be called in to re-write him remains to be seen. But while it does mean that the film won’t be arriving in 2014 as planned, there are still plenty of reasons to believe it will at least arrive, and we will all be able to welcome our robot overlords.

Pray he doesn't do to this what he did with WAR OF THE WORLDS
ROBOPOCALYPSE is a pretty epic storyline, and if Spielberg ends up doing to this like he did with WAR OF THE WORLDS (2005) - one his WORST film as director - then it's going to suck. WAR OF THE WORLDS was ruined thanks to it's gaping plot holes, unbearable screamings of Dakota Fanning and abrupt ending. These are my suggestions - 1. Spielberg makes the adaptation not as epic as the novel, but more so than his WAR OF THE WORLDS film; and 2. Keep Drew Goddard on board to revise the screenplay and More

Personal way
Having just finished the book, this personal approach has got to be the best way to go....It is one guy recounting other peoples events through a computer box....So making it about one person may work....Problem is...the book is like World War Z....post war accounts which make it very easy to read....and youd think people would want to make it that way. Instead like World War Z we get them taking one idea from the book and mashing it up.....Fingers crossed Spielberg can pull it off.... PS: More

RE: Spielberg Offers Robopocalypse Update
This does sound like hes thinking of taking the War of the Worlds approach!. Kind of a cop out! as much as I actually like his WotW I would of loved to have seen a full blown version! More
