Jack White Not Scoring Lone Ranger
No more Seven Nation Armie

Jack White

Sad news for lovers of the multi-gifted guitarist and former White Stripe, Jack White. The good folk at Indiewire report that he's no longer scoring The Lone Ranger. Instead, familiar Jerry Bruckheimer hand Hans Zimmer will be taking on musical duties, stonking his trademark cues around the old West until vultures start falling out of trees and everyone spills bourbon over themselves.

It's a dramatic musical switcheroo, although of course Zimmer is a more-than-assured pair of hands. As Disney's statement stresses, the German has a wealth of Bruckheimer collaborations under his belt and should slot pretty seemlessly into the production: “The musical mastermind behind Pirates Of The Caribbean, has signed on to compose the score for The Lone Ranger. Jack White, who had originally been contemplated to score and has contributed several pieces of music to the production, was logistically unavailable due to scheduling conflicts that arose when the film’s release moved to July of 2013.”

White, who has Cold Mountain and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story on his acting CV, has yet to pen his first movie score. Hopefully it won't be too long before he gets another chance to do just that. In the meantime, he'sgot The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs and/or his solo work to keep him busy.

The Lone Ranger lands with us on For all kinds of amazing background on the masked law man, visit Empire's History Of The Lone Ranger or saddle up and head straight to the latest trailer.

That's a real shame ...
There are only a few composers in the world that get to do all the big movies, so all the big movies always sound the bl**dy same. Then later on the music gets recycled into trailers for new big movies and it's all very homogenous. I think Hans Zimmer is great and everything, but Jack White doing the Lone Ranger had that fresh feel to it, like when Daft Punk did Tron. Like I say, a real shame. More
