Del Toro Talks Dark DC Movie
'We're discussing Heaven Sent'

12 November 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: MTV

The Swamp Thing

With the bulging box of projects he either has in development to make himself, or that he’s producing / consulting on, there’s a seemingly endless flow of possibilities in front of Guillermo del Toro. Recently, the workhorse writer / director / mischief maker was the focus of rumours about something called Heaven Sent, described as a dark take on the DC Universe’s Justice League featuring characters such as Swamp Thing and Constantine. Earlier reports were denied, but now he tells MTV that he’s discussing the idea.

From his tone, it definitely sounds like it’s more wish fulfilment than active development. “I've been discussing with the fans and I've been very, very open about how much Swamp Thing was key when I was a kid. Comics in Mexico came on the first two days of the week. Around Tuesday and Wednesday I would go to the newsstand on my bicycle and I would get Swamp Thing every time it was available and I loved Jack Kirby's Demon. I love Constantine and all that. You know, I've been pursuing doing something with them for many, many years. Hopefully it'll come to pass. But we are still just discussing."

He also explains why he seemed to shoot down the rumours: he was being asked about work on the actual Justice League film (Superman Batman, Wonder Woman etc.) that Warner Bros. wants in cinemas by 2015. He’s definitely not involved with that. Yet.

GDT's next, monster-mash action adventure epic Pacific Rim, is set to hit our screens on July 12.

Heaven sent
Could be great, could be awful. Would this still have Keanu as Constantine? Because that WAS awful and nothing like the comic books, very difficult to translate without being just silly I think, but GDT did well on Hellboy so open mind.. More

RE: If WB managed to get GDT for...
Sounds a bit like Justice League Dark with just a few team changes. More

If WB managed to get GDT for...
the ACTUAL Justice League movie ALL doubts I have about their approach/strategy would evaporate. But we'll see, Justice League Dark could be cool too. More

A GDT Swamp Thing sounds great and all but I really want Hellboy 3. and while we're at it, can somebody please resurrect "The Shadow" and get Raimi to direct. The fans deserve a Hellboy Trilogy and Raimi deserves his shot at The Shadow after 23 years More

cool!
This sounds great! Although 'sounds' as GDT has fingers in so many pies!! Something dark with Swamp Thing, Constantine, Deadman, Spectre and Zatanna along the lines of the horror that Alan Moore brought to the Swamp Thing 'American Gothic' storyline would be great. More
