Mental Trailer Online
Toni Collette is the anti-Poppins

Given that the last time they collaborated we got Muriel’s Wedding, it’s rather nice to see writer-director PJ Hogan and star Toni Collette reunited for Mental. The trailer for the comedy is above.

We haven’t seen much advertising over here for this one, but from the looks of the promo, it could a daffy blend of heart and madness as Anthony LaPaglia plays Barry Moochmore, a conniving politician (they’re clearly not aiming for subtlety here).

When his wife Shirley (Rebecca Gibney) cracks from the stress of her hubby’s infidelity and raising five teenage girls, Barry has her shipped off to an institution while trying to convince everyone she’s on holiday. But faced with looking after his sprawling brood on his own, he makes the rash decision to hire outspoken hitchhiker Shaz (Collette) to help out as a sort of punky Mary Poppins.

Cue crawls, bonding and some inspirational behaviour from Shaz. Well...  inspirational, provided they all survive.

The farcical film is out here on November 16.
