Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Debuts Online
The first episode of the game adaptation

Microsoft and 343 Industries are doing something altogether different to promote the upcoming release of sci-fi shooter Halo 4 namely creating a movie called Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, revealed online in five seperate chunks before the game's November 4 release. The first episode arrived today via Machinima, and you can check it out below.

Set not in the current timeline of the Halo gaming franchise, Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn centres around a group of cadets in the United Nations Space Command military academy at the beginning of the human and Covenant war as they take on different colonial insurgents and come to terms with being soldiers.

Thomas Lasky (Tom Green) is the star of the show, and his story is set to prepare gamers for the plot of Halo 4, offering special insight and generally filling out the background of the universe.

Elsewhere, Daniel "Colossus" Cudmore (X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, Twilight) plays series hero Master Chief, supported by the likes of Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons, Munich) and Mike Dopud (Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol) in the envelope-pushing sort-of-kinda-game adaptation.

The episode above is a food 20 minutes long, so if you get the chance to watch it through, let us know what you think in the comment box below. Does this herald a new way to watch films? Are we finally going to get a feature film game adaptation that's worthy of the framchise it's aping? Let us know in the comment box below.

Axios!
Really enjoying it, Microsoft spent about $10 million on this....imagine what they could do with $100 million or more?! I think from this and the past live action shorts/trailers it is certain Microsoft could fund and produce their own Halo movie, so give Hollywood the middle finger and make the movie already! More

Great.
Considering this probably had a fraction of the budget of bigger yet less engrossing Hollywood productions, I'd say they've done an amazing job. More

Satisfied
The trailer looked a little bit naff but actually I was pleasantly surprised with how well this turned out. Some of the acting is poor and the CG and settings a little artificial but otherwise it's quite engrossing. More

Impressed
I'm a big Halo fan, and convinced that with the right people behind it, it's the property to break the Video Game Adaptation Curse. This is better than I thought it would be, and feels rather like Battlstar Galactica, which it should. More

Well it's better than any feature length game-to-film adaptation I've seen. I was sufficiently drawn in for those twenty minutes and I look forward to seeing the next part. More
