Inbetweeners Invade America
Beesley & Morris set for new film

Inbetweeners Invade America

For a show about four abject losers, The Inbetweeners has turned into a real winner for co-creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley. The film version was a monster hit at the cinema over here and is set to arrive across the pond in September. Now it appears that Paramount wants to keep the party going, with the Hollywood Reporter bringing word that Morris has been hired to script and direct an American taken on the characters for the big screen.

Or has he? There’s also a report from Deadline that claims something similar but still slightly different: according to that site, Beesley and Morris will both crank out the script that Morris will direct, and that it’ll be “inspired by" the ‘Tweeners rather than a new version of the characters. The plot sounds awfully familiar, though, charting four teenagers who celebrate their high school graduation by heading out on a trip to an exotic locale. Paramount has handed the duo a $15 million budget to get it going.

But they’ve also been involved with spreading the concept on TV, too, with MTV set to debut a more direct remake next month. Beesley and Morris collaborated with Brad Copeland on the show and Morris directed the season finale. We’re guessing that Paramount will err towards keeping the new movie distinct from the US show so that it can also make films based on that if it’s a success…
