Catherine Hardwicke Picks Up Diamond
She's in talks for the gangster pic

22 March 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Screen Daily

Catherine Hardwicke Picks Up Diamond

While Catherine Hardwicke has a few possible projects competing for her attention, it would appear that she’s zeroed in on her reunion with Evan Rachel Wood for erotic thriller Plush as her next film. But after that, the field is open and she may just be finding room for gangster movie Diamond.

With Frankie And Alice scriptwriting team Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse at work on the script, Diamond is being kept mostly under wraps, though Screen Daily did find out that it’s set in the swinging ‘60s in London. Assuming everything comes together, it should be shooting next year.

It’s being produced by former financial “superwoman” Nicola Horlick, who has been drumming up cash from American investors and now hopes to get Hardwicke involved to boost the project’s potential.

Hardwicke, who last directed Red Riding Hood, is attached to various other developing movies, including an adaptation of Gayle Forman’s romantic fantasy novel If I Stay, Bosse Hogberg biopic Knockout (which also has Noomi Rapace circling one of the lead roles), War Games-style thriller Dot War and young adult novel pics Maximum Ride and The Maze Runner.
